Seton Hall Season to Date

Seton Hall is second in the Big East at 4-1, only behind UConn and Villanova who are both 5-0.

The Pirates beat Butler 70-51, Creighton 88-79, Xavier 75-55 and Georgetown 81-36 with the last  three games heading into the UConn game.

Their only loss in the Big East was to the earlier mentioned Villanova team, losing 72-55.

Seton Hall's OOC schedule has been up and down, going 6-3.

They started their season with 4 wins, beating Saint Peter's 88-39, San Francisco 80-66, Pacific 79-57 and Fordham 90-83 in double overtime.

Their first loss came against a solid Princeton team, losing 82-78 before beating Butler in the aforementioned win.

They then lost two tough games. Against North Carolina State on the road they lost only 61-53 and then in a game at home to Columbia 54-53. That loss was particularly painful losing at the buzzer.

The Pirates bounced back with two OOC wins, beating SEC's Auburn 69-63 and Washington State 74-65 before starting their  Big East schedule in earnest.

Seton Hall Starters

Seton Hall Bench

Game Analysis

Seton Hall only returns one starter in Jada Eade. They bring in 2 transfers and two freshman. A couple of bench players last year have moved into the starting lineup. Here is some info on the players.

Starters

Savannah Catalon is a 5'8" sophomore guard. She is the leading scorer for Seton Hall averaging 14.3 PPG. She is an excellent three point shooter. She takes 7 per game and hits them at a terrific 40%. She plays the most minutes averaging 32 MPG. You will see a lot of her.

6'2" senior transfer forward Marina Valenzuela from Florida State is the second leading scorer on the team at 12.9 PPG. A great addition to the team, she is the best shoot on the team. She shoots 53% from the field and shoots three pointers at 42.9%. She also leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 RPG.

Jada Eade is a 5'7" sophomore guard. Last season she was offense off the bench and then moved to the starting lineup and was second on the team in scoring. This season she has started every game and leads the team in assists at with 4.1 per game. She takes the second most three pointers taking over 6.5 per game but only shoots them at 30.8%.

Messiah Hunter, a 6'2" Junior, transferred in from West Virginia two years ago. She is playing 16 MPG and is getting the starts with Catalon on the bench with the ankle injury. She is averaging 1.6 PPG and 2.5 RPG.

6' guard Zahara Bishop is the only freshman (they have four) that is in starting lineup. She plays 19.9 MPG. She actually started 6 games. Bishop is averaging 8.1 PPG and is cool as a cucumber from the foul line, going 26-30.

Bench

6'1" senior guard Jordana Codio is the first option off the bench and basically gets starter's minutes at 24.5 MPG. She is a double digit scorer at 10.4 PPG. Not a great shooter  going 36.7% from the field and 32.4% on threes.

5'9" Freshman Guard Ja'Kahia Craft has been getting more minutes and is averaging 13.9 MPG. She is a solid shooter going 53.3% from the field and 36.8 on three pointers.

Shailyn Pickney is a 6' senior forward. She has started 8 games this season. Playing 19.1 MPG, she is averaging 3.8 PPG. Not a bad ball handler with 23 assists and 17 turnovers.

Prediction

Not a great matchup for Seton Hall. They are not a bad team, but they have little height. No one in the starting lineup is over 6'2" and the tallest player off the bench is a 6'1" guard. They don't have a lot of quicknes as well. Not slow but not fast.

I'm assuming that KK plays with a mask in this game. Nothing will change if she sits out.

Strong and Blanca should have great games and when they try to double the post, Azzi will have a field day. Just another walk in the park against a weak Big East opponent. Especially at home.
