The lease is up on our 2013 Subaru Legacy. I looked for a car that really appealed to both my wife and I. We wanted an upgrade but not too expensive. And we wanted an American company. Although the production plant is in Mexico, Lincoln fit the bill. So we are leasing a Lincoln MKZ sedan.

It's a great ride, the seats are really really comfortable, the 3.7 engine is really powerful and it has AWD. It has enough bells and whistles to make us really happy!!!

I told my son the dealer promised I would look like Matthew McConaughey if I went with the Lincoln. My son then said "Dad, I think they meant McCaulay Culkin".

He is now out of the will.

Just a few recruiting tidbits....more to come in a few weeks.

Geno is currently in Spain checking out the talent playing for Team USA at the FIBA U17 world championships.  Coach Dailey may be there too but that hasn't been confirmed.

There are a lot of UConn recruiting targets playing on Team USA (Christyn Williams, Sedona Prince, Charli Collier, Aquira Decosta, Samantha Brunelle).  Interestingly, as of yesterday Coach Dailey's twitter is following Olivia Nelson-Ododa, a young post player (2018) from Georgia who is on the U17 team and quite impressive.  UConn should be interested and it looks like Geno and CD are.

CD also now following Charli Collier but UConn's interest in her is not new.

That's all for now!

What a great game Tuesday when the two undefeated teams, Minnesota and Los Angeles met on the Sparks home court. No surprise to UConn fans that the game was low scoring. As we know, good defense stops good offense. And while the two teams are 1-2 in almost all offensive categories, they are also 1-2 in almost all defensive categories as well.

The game was close for almost all of the game with a few spurts by both teams to take a lead but I don't believe it ever over the 8 point lead Minnesota had in the first quarter at 20-12. The second half, the lead was exchanged several times.

Tied at 69 with 28 seconds left, LA had the ball. Beard missed a jumper and the Lynx rebounded ad called a time out with 7.5 remaining in the game. Minnesota was able to find an open Renee Montgomery with  2.9 seconds left and she drained a three pointer from the left corner. Just a great clutch shot for the former UConn guard. Minnesota then fouled Parker to prevent LA from taking a three points but it almost backfired. Parker missed the first and then missed the second on purpose. Parker was able to tap the ball to Kristi Tolliver for an open three that she drained at the buzzer to tie the game.

Well, not exactly. Two things happened. 1 - she was on the line, so it was only a two. 2 - After review, it was clearly just after buzzer when it left her fingers.

A game that was so close was really really close to going to OT.

Just a couple of observations.

The referees were way to active in this game. Let them play, for goodness sake. No one watches to see the refs call fouls and impact the game in a negative way.

Maya Moore only played 19 minutes in this game. She was fighting foul trouble but it was a sore hamstring that kept her out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Candace Parker had another mediocre game. She came out like gangbusters her first five games averaging 20.8 ppg on 45% shooting. 10-21 on threes shooting 48%. Impressive. But in her last 7 games, she is scoring 12.2 ppg on 41% shooting, 6-20 on threes for 30%. And only 2 for her last 13. She looks slower to me this year and I rarely see her hustle without the ball in her hand.

Yay!!!!! Renee Montgomery had a game winner and had 6 points and 4 assists with only 1 turnover in 26 solid minutes.

Minnesota hammered LA on the boards, 42-29. And took 10 more shots for the game.

The Minnesota bench was the difference in this game, outscoring the Sparks' bench 26-10. Howard, Jenkins were terrific. Lavender for LA scored 8 of the 10 LA bench points.

My bad. I had Beard's first name wrong as Amanda in yesterday's blog. Of course it is Alana.

These two teams meet again on Friday night in Minnesota.
