The Huskies welcome Cincinnati to Storrs for a big AAC contest Thursday night. The game is on at  7:00 and can be found on SNY and ESPN3.

Cincinnati is having a solid season this year. They are 13-6 so far and 4-2 in the conference, sitting in third place in the AAC.

They returned 5 of their top 6 scorers and those returning players are 4 seniors, 1 junior. That is the beauty of WCBB, with most players staying for four years, you have a chance to have a team that starts 4 or 5 seniors and all upper classmen. That is certainly the case for the Bearcats.

5'10" junior forward llmar'l Thomas has been terrific this season. She is leading the AAC in scoring with a 20.7 average, and the team with 8,7 rebounds per game. She gets to the free throw line often and hits at an 80% clip. Thomas is only 5'10" but she is a wide body and does a great job carving out space in the paint.

5'6" senior guard Antoinette Miller is the second leading scorer for Cincinnati at 16 ppg. She is second in assists and has a decent assists/to ratio.

The rest of the starters are 6' senior forward Angel Rizor, 5'10" senior guard Sam Rodgers and 5'7" senior guard Florence Sifa. Off the bench are 5'10"RS sophomore Addaya Moore and 5'6" freshman guard Aleah Nelson.

As you can see, this is not a big team, but they are tough and seasoned. They lost to Ohio State in overtime, beat UCF by 17 scoring 81 points against what we know is a tough team to score on, and just beat Temple 86-81 in their last outing.

Last season Cincinnati lost to UConn 82-38 and then 65-55. You'd think this game would be more like the second game. Was the difference the home venue for the Bearcats? Possibly. We will see if playing in Storrs makes a difference.

Second matchup highlights

Nice interview with the Cincinnati coach

It includes highlights of the Bearcats against Temple. They have some terrific 1-1 talent. UConn will have to play solid help defense.

As a team Cincinnati averages almost 71 ppg and has a solid 8 point margin of victory. Three point shooting isn't their specialty, but they play solid defense and do a good job turning defense into offense. They also don't beat themselves. They average 17.5 assists per game and only 12.5 turnovers per game. That is a ratio a team can be proud of. Something you would expect from a senior laden lineup.

Too much talent on UConn for the Bearcats. I expect the Huskies to pull away in the first half and hold on for a 20+ point win.

The accolades don't stop for the best HS player this season. I think I have posted something about her every day for weeks. At least it feels that way.

Here is a video where Paige and her teammates meet with the coach to review game video, but it's really a Paige tribute event. Such fun!!! Some game video to enjoy as well,

Here is how that cover looks. So cool!!!

Image result for stats don't lie

By David in Naples!!!!

Who is the best 3 point shooter on the current UConn team? The answer is not so simple. If you value accuracy, Kyla Irwin is shooting 50% (13-26) and leading the Huskies. If you have no minimum requirement for threes attempted, Evelyn Adebayo is 1-1 or 100%.

If you prefer the player with the most made threes, pick Crystal at 42 makes. But she has tried 103 threes and her accuracy is “only” 40.8%. Maybe switch to Megan with 41 made threes & a shooting % of 43.6%. Let’s see, who is left? Oh yeah, if you value the recent “hot hand” pick Anna Makurat. After her 0 for America start she is making threes at a 53% clip.

If the question is who is the best three shooter, the answer depends on what measuring stick you use. The better question is who would you want to shoot a game winning three in the National Championship game? Probably Makurat...or Megan....or Crystal.....😎

Go Huskies..!!

The latest Bracketology is out and UConn is still the No. 1 Two seed in the Fort Wayne bracket. If they can beat South Carolina or Oregon, that seeding could change to a No. 1 seed.

For those who might think the exhibition game against team USA was a complete defeat, you are mistaken. There were many reasons to be happy about the play of the Huskies. For example, UConn shot 40.4% from the field vs 40.8% for the pros. Very impressive. After a cold start saw the Huskies down 19-5, they went on a scoring spree that had them up 51-50 deep into the 3rd period. The obvious difference was Team USA's ability to bring Kelsey Plum, Neka Ogwumike and Kayla McBride fresh off the bench. Our top three starters played 38, 36 and 33 minutes. Team USA's top minutes were 27, 25 and 24. And, they were all subs.

Several stats were very close and a few others quite different. For example, UConn made 7 threes and Team USA made 8. Close enough. Both teams had 2 blocked shots. The different stats gave USA the edge. They took 76 shots vs 52 for Uconn. That was because USA had 16 offensive rebounds vs 7 for the Huskies. USA also had only 13 turnovers vs 20 for UConn. Finally, USA had 25 assists vs only 14 for the Huskies.

The Huskies played well most of the game. It was close until and the end and the team had fun. That is a "win" in an exhibition game like this. Next up is Cincinnati on Thursday. (SNY at 7 pm)

Go Huskies..!!

The only UConn articles to link were about Kobe and his daughter and their connection to UConn.

I don't know about you, but I can't read another article about them. It hurts too much.

UConn played Team USA and did themselves proud!!

It was 31-31 at the half and 52-51, Team USA after three quarters. It was a only a three point lead for Team USA in the fourth quarter when UConn started to tire against the great players on the National team.

Team USA won going away and had their biggest lead at the end of the game winning 79-64.

A valiant effort by the Huskies!

Shout out to Megan Walker, who had a confidence building game with 21 points on 9-16 shooting, 3-7 on threes and 7 rebounds. We will ignore the turnover number.

UConn is off until Thursday against an improved Cincinnati team.

TOP TWENTY-FIVE

The latest AP poll came out and after a great week where UConn beat East Carolina 98-42 and then No. 23 Tennessee 60-45. A really good week by any measure. So, No. 3 UConn is now......wait for it....here it is....now.....No. 4 UConn. Really. They dropped a spot.

No. 4 Oregon jumped ahead of UConn after beating No. 7 Oregon State twice in three days.

Hey, I get wanting to give Oregon more points. They deserve it. But it just doesn't seem right that they moved ahead of the Huskies.

Even worse, No. 23 Tennessee, who actually lost a game this week, moved up to No. 22.

Please explain how this happens.

I'll explain it. the Pollsters are idiots. Your welcome.

Saylor Poffenbarger had a great game as well.

Image result for stats don't lie

By David in Naples!!!!

UConn Women's Basketball has lists of all the all-time greats that played for the Huskies. The main categories are points, assists, rebounds, steals and blocked shots. Crystal is obviously moving up the assist and scoring lists. Currently, she is 7th in assists with 549 and 39th in scoring with 1,291 points. Great seniors tend get to the top of those kinds of lists.

Up and coming Juniors, and even some Sophomores, also move up those lists. Megan is poised to become the 47th player at UConn to score 1,000 or more points. She is currently at 994. Her 373 points so far this season will go up with the weak AAC schedule coming in February. Her average of 19.6 points per game could help her reach up to spot #40, Kris Lamb with 1,244 points. Moran Tuck would be next at 1,298 points.

Even more remarkable, is Olivia's rise to #16 in the blocked shot category. Combined with last season, Liv's 69 blocks give her 123 for her career. Just ahead of her are Jessica Moore at 125 and Swin Cash at 130. Her best case target is probably Maya Moore at #8, with 204 blocked shots. She would still have two more full seasons to reach #4 Kiah Stokes at 325 or #3 Kara Wolters at 370.

Go Huskies..!!
