DoggyDaddy's Dailies 10/12/16

Yom Kippur is to me the most important holiday of the year. We Jews get to ask God for forgiveness for any and all sins that we might have committed for the prior year. We beat our chest as we recite the many sins we might have committed before God.

We also ask anyone that we might have sinned against for forgiveness. It's a very personal holiday to me and I take very seriously the traditions and laws about the full day fast and the very tiring prayers that last for several hours. We also remember the loved ones that have passed on, which include my parents and many other relatives. It's a very emotional and exhausting day.

We will be having many people over our house to break the fast with home made bagels, tuna, egg salad, lox, cream cheese, kugals and various desserts. That first bite of food after the long fast is just glorious.

So to all my Jewish friends and readers, may the lord provide you comfort and the ability to have an easy fast.

I waited until the 2nd WNBA finals game between the Lynx and the Sparks was over. The Lynx, after a tough first game loss on a buzzer beater by Alana Beard, was able to bounce back and handle the LA team easily, winning 79-6o.

Maya Moore led the Lynx with 21 points, sparking a first half run that gave Minnesota a big 14 point lead at the half. LA was able to close to four early in the second half, but behind a terrific performance by Seimone Augustus and a dominating rebounding job by Sylvia Fowles, the Lynx pulled away for the final 19 point margin.

Candace Parker was her usual petulant self, complaining on every call and lagging behind on defense. She finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. An awful performance in a big game.

Minnesota looked like the defending champions in this game. LA needs to bring it at home or this could be over quickly.

Many UConn fans are agonizing over the graduation of Stewie, Mo and Morgan and the impact that will have on the Husky offense. Together, those three scored 1,632 points last season. That is 48.8% of the 3,346 points scored. Maybe it would be a good idea to realize the points scored last season were made after the graduation of Maya, Tina, D.T., Sue, Renee, Tiff, Kaleena, Bria and Stef Dolson. Players graduate every year, though maybe not as talented as these three. Here is the season point total and game average per game, for the last eight years. Trust me, it varies from year to year...

2015-16        3,346        88.1 average
2014-15        3,481        89.3 average
2013-14        3,283        82.1 average
2012-13        3,218        82.5 average

2011-12        2,903        76.4 average
2010-11        2,909        76.6 average
2009-10       3,162        81.1 average
2008-09      3,274       83.9 average

The last two Stewie, Mo & Morgan years were a bit of an aberration. The average for the prior six years was 80.4 points per game. Put another way, if the UConn offense scores 12 fewer points per game, every game, it would still match 2010 and 2011 seasons. Relax, there are still plenty of scoring options and Geno has graduated a dozen all time greats and still manages to win.

Go Huskies..!!
