Under the UConn blanket!!

Naismith fan voting has started. You can vote once a day. Paige and Aaliyah are on the ballot.

Ok, I admit it. When they announced Paige as MVP of the tournament and they panned on her mom who had tears in her eyes, I joined her. Between the emotional interview with Nika and the poignent comments from Geno, it was a surprisingly emotional evening for this UConn fan.

22 BE championship for the Huskies and they were just terrific in this game. Gotta give credit to Georgetown for how hard they played but you could see how tired they were. Four games in four days is not easy!!

This game and this tournament starts and ends with Paige Bueckers. She averaged 27 PPG in the tournament and she set the tone for the Huskies each and every game. In this game she filled the stat board. 27 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals and FIVE blocks. Her timing on the blocks is just impeccable.

Now let's talk about Ice "Iron woman" Brady. I loved Geno's post game comment about her playing 80 consecutive minutes in the two games. He said she hasn't played in 80 consecutive minutes in practice. All the other players cracked up. But the fans gave her a standing ovation after his comments and boy did she revel in that! It was so wonderful to see. And what a game she had. Scoring the first 7 points of the game for UConn, she ended up 4-5 from the field, 5-6 on free throws for 13 points. She grabbed 8 rebounds and while she only had 1 assists, she had a few other passes that should have been assists. She is coming around and making big contributions. Oh yeah, she made the all tournament team.

As did Nika. What a great game Nine assists. I'm sure Phil will have the milestone update but Muhl played a terrific game as well. Yeah, a couple of silly turnovers. But overall, she was a great floor leader in this game. And her emotional inteview...well...I just love this young lady. Thank you Nika for all you do!

You all saw the game. I won't get into details. I'll just post the videos!!!

ENJOY!!!!!

Straight from the Dog

Kin Mulkey's comment about the "brawl" between LSU players and South Carolina was as trashy as this outfit.

As least Dawn Staley had classy comments after the game.

"I just want to apologize to the basketball community. I want to apologize for us playing a part in that, that’s not who we are. That’s not what we’re about."

Ok...not bad. So how did Mulky handle it?

"It’s ugly, it’s not good, no one wants to be a part of that. But I’ll tell you this, I wish [Cardoso] would’ve pushed Angel Reese. If you’re 6-8, don’t push somebody that little. That was uncalled for in my opinion. Let those two girls who were jawing, let them go at it."

Let them go at it? What is this, the WWE? What a pathetic comment by a pathetic human being. Her team is a reflection of her.

I will agree with her that the refs blew it as well. They let them play like that. Call the damn fouls.

From my friend Cat - "Since this was posted, UConn Women's Hockey are Hockey East Tournament champions and UConnWBB are Big East Tournament champions. The UConn men, currently ranked #2 in the country, are the #1 seed in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden this week. Go Huskies!"

Curious stats

Long scoreless spell

Credit to John Fanta for pointing out the stat.

Jordan King from Marquette scored with 4:51 left in the third quarter.

Graceann Bennett from Georgetown would be the next player to score against UConn with 5:51 left in the first quarter of the next game.

That’s 19 minutes and 18 seconds between scores.

How often does that happen?!

Geno’s win total

On December 4, 2023, Stanford was 8 – 1 and UConn was 4 – 3.

Since the date Stanford has gone a very impressive 20 – 4, but UConn has gone 25 – 2, so Tara is still ahead of Geno but he is five games closer to her than he was in early December.

Milestone Watch

• Aaliyah Edwards did not play in the Georgetown game. She remains in sole possession of 18th place. She now needs 31 points to catch Stefanie Dolson.

• Nika Mühl has 651 assists after her 9 assists in the Georgetown game. She passed Diana Taurasi to move into second place all-time! She needs eight more to tie Moriah Jefferson.

• Geno now has 1209 wins.

SPIDER STATS
Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.

UConn 101, Georgetown 19

Net positives/minutes played: Mount Rushmore PB 31/35, Ice 23/40, KK 15/36, Qadence 13/17, Nika 9/33, Ashlynn 8/34, Ines -3/5.

Big East tournament totals: Paige 106/110, Ice 37/103, KK 31/100, Ashlynn 22/106, Nika 22/109, Qadence 20/38, Aaliyah 16/24, Ines -2/10.

What a team! With Aaliyah back, look out! Find a few more minutes for Qadence (breathers for KK and Ashlynn).

Go UConn, beat whoever!
