Many UConn fans believe Breanna Stewart had her best season during her Senior year. Her talents certainly seemed to expand every season with the Huskies. However, from a strictly statistical point of view, her Sophomore campaign was her best. Consider the following:

1. Points - Sophomore = 777
                        Senior  = 716

2. Rebounds - Sophomore = 324
                                Senior  = 323

3. Assists - Sophomore = 122
                        Senior  = 147

4. Three point shots made = Sophomore 48
                                                                 Senior  = 46

5. Blocked shots - Sophomore = 110
                                         Senior  = 126

Stewie's 2nd season has a slight edge statistically, over the final season. But, remember that number of games played was different. Sophomore year, Stewie played in all 40 of the Huskies games. By contrast, in her senior year she played in 37 games. I guess the bottom line is she was very, very good in each and every year. Time for the current Huskies to take over where she left off...

Go UConn..!!!

With talented players like Stewie and MoJeff dominating the spotlight and leading the Huskies, it was fairly easy for others to be a bit overlooked. For example, Kia Nurse and Gabby Williams have quietly had two very good statistical years at UConn, while playing a supporting role to the Big 3. But exactly how good? Here's a comparison of their first two years, to the Freshman and Sophomore season for Stewie and Moriah.

1. Games started -  Stewie and MoJeff = 96
                                            Kia and Gabby  = 86

2. Points scored - Stewie and MoJeff = 1,856
                                         Kia and Gabby  = 1,405

3. Rebounds - Stewie and MoJeff = 753
                                 Kia and Gabby  = 627

4. Assists - Stewie and MoJeff = 421
                         Kia and Gabby  = 313

5. Three point field goals - Stewie and MoJeff = 126
                                                            Kia and Gabby = 104  (all Kia)

Stewie and Moriah had breakout sophomore years statistically. Kia and Gabby have played well, but the comparison to those two superstars comes up short. Now that Stewart and Jefferson have moved on, the time is now for these Kia and gabby to shine. Look for a strong year from these two leaders of the Huskies..!!

Stewie and MoJeff dominate college basketball just like Batman and Robin cleaned up crime in Gotham City. Stewie, the top high school player in the country, dominated post season awards with gaudy stats and big game performances. Moriah, probably the 2nd best player in the country, worked her magic slightly in the shadow of her partner, but carved out her own place in the record books. Now that those two have graduated, is there a new Batman and Robin playing at UConn? Here's the case for Katie Lou and Napheesa to take over as the new dynamic duo.   Consider a comparison of all four and their stats freshman year.

1. Games started - KLS = 22
                                          Stewie = 14
                                          Napheesa = 9
                                          MoJeff = 2

2. Points scored - Stewie = 497
                                        KLS = 408
                                        Napheesa = 258
                                        MoJeff = 182

3. Rebounds - Stewie = 229
                                Napheesa = 197
                                KLS = 124
                                MoJeff = 64

4. Assists -  KLS = 82
                          MoJeff = 69
                          Stewie = 35
                          Napheesa = 34

5. Three point field goals - KLS = 78
                                                            Stewie = 28
                                                            MoJeff = 17
                                                            Napheesa = 2

In those five statistical categories, the new Dynamic Duo lead in all but points scored. One could also argue KLS and Napheesa had more consistent freshman seasons, with fewer highs and lows. All four brought home a National Championship, but obviously the new duo still had the old duo leading the charge. The test will come this season, with Batman and Robin I in the WNBA. Can Batman and Robin II take over and fight off Notre Dame, South Carolina and Texas for supremacy in Dallas? Time will tell...

Go Katie Lou and Pheese...!!

P.S. - Tomorrow, a look at the other Dynamic Duo, Kia and Gabby..!

The Jewish New Year is fast approaching and I would like to wish all my fellow Jewish UConn fans a very happy and healthy new year. For my grandson's first birthday, my son and Logan's Uncle Jay bought Logan and his mother a ticket to Florida to spend Rosh Hashanah with Uncle Jay, Aunt Jules and cousins Noa and Mya. I'm so happy that my grandkids will be spending the holiday together and my son and daughter will be together as well.

Of course I have a few pictures to share.

Breanna Stewart and Moriah Jefferson were pretty good players in college.   Most fans expected both of them to excel in the WNBA as well, but perhaps not to eclipse the UConn legends that came before. Here is a quick comparison of Stewie's and MoJeff's rookie numbers vs the legends in their first WNBA season.

Points - Stewie scored more points in her first WNBA season than any other UConn grad. She had 621 points, well ahead of D.T. (578) and Tina Charles (528). Moriah finished 5th with 472 points. That put her ahead of Sue Bird (461), some player named Maya (449) and that tall player Lobo (348).

Rebounds - Only Tina had more rebounds her first year than Stewart (317). Tamika, Swin and Kiah finished well back with 229, 222, and 219 boards. Maya and Stef Dolson were further down the list at 157 and 149.

Assists - No surprise that MoJeff finished 2nd all time for UConn grads with 142 assists. Also no surprise that Sue Bird is ahead of her at 191. What may shock a few people is that 191 assists for Sue was this year. Yes, I guess feeding Stewie, KLM and Jewel has it's advantages.

Steals - Both Stewart and Jefferson cracked the top seven in steals. Mo was tied for 2nd with 55 steals and Stewie 7th with 42. The all time leader, no surprise, Nykesha with 69.

3 point shots - Once again, both Stewie and Moriah finished in the top 7 for UConn grads in the WNBA. Breanna's 45 threes placed her 4th, behind DT (62), Maya (58) and Sue (57). Jefferson was 7th with 33, just behind Renee and Nykesha, but ahead of Bria (21) and Tiff (21).

Assist / Turnover ratio - MoJeff destroyed the previous high by Maya (1.80) with an assist /turnover ratio of 2.41 . Sue and Bria are 3rd and 4th at (1.75) and (1.54) respectively. Stewie even placed 7th with a ratio of 1.41, just behind D.T.'s 1.47.

Stewie and MoJeff have picked up in the WNBA where they left off in the NCAA. Record setting, spectacular play that ranks with, and even ahead of, D.T., Maya, Sue and Tina. Not bad for two rookies...!!
