So, still no word on Westbrooks transfer waiver request. I heard from a reasonable source that we could find out late Friday afternoon. For some reason I won't hold my breath..lol. However, there have been several waiver requests approved this year with more to come. Let's try to be optimistic.

Here is a LINK to the list of approved waiver requests so far up to 10/27.

The latest news on waiver requests is a denial by the NCAA for the request from Destiny Littleton. Littleton is a guard who transferred from Texas to South Carolina. Here is a LINK detailing her situation.

I think I'm a pretty logical guy, but I can find no rhyme or reason for approving or denying these requests. It's a real head scratcher. And the time frames for making these decisions make no sense either. There really should be a hard stop to produce these decisions at least a month before the season starts. I mean, give these kids a break.

The latest addition to the transfer portal is a big surprise. Sophomore Aquira DeCosta, a  6' 2" guard from California, has decided to leave Baylor. Decosta was ranked 3rd by ESPN in the HS class of 2018 and No. 1 for her position. She only played 7 minutes per game and was in only 24 games last season. She really never looked comfortable with the move from the post to the wing for Mulkey. Wherever she goes, she will add a lot of talent to any roster.  She was interested in USC, Louisville, South Carolina and Tennessee.

As most of you probably know, UConn is playing an exhibition game on Sunday at 1:00 in Gample. I hope many of you have a chance to get to Storrs to watch them in person.

If not, you can catch the game HERE. Enjoy!!!

By David in Naples!!!!!

So, I did a bad job of cutting and pasting Davids report last night. I left off the "T" in  turnovers to start his comments. My bad! I got lazy in getting back to the blog and fixing it. Sorry about that my friend!

UConn is listed as the #5 team in the AP Top 25 Women's Basketball poll. Ahead of the Huskies are Oregon, Baylor, Stanford and Maryland. So those four are expected to finish in the Final Four. How well have these teams done in previous years? Consider:

1. Oregon - Lost in last year's Final Four semi-final, their only Final Four appearance ever. Has never won a National Championship.
2. Baylor - Three time Champions, defending National Champion. Previous appearance was 2010, lost in semi-final.
3. Stanford - Has not won a NC since 1992. Lost to UConn in 2010 in their last Final visit. Been in 3 Final Fours since 2011.
4. Maryland - One and only NC in 2006. Lost in semi-final in 2014 & 2015.

So, 3 of the 4 teams ahead of UConn have won a total of 6 NCs. UConn, of course, has won 11 by themselves. And, the Huskies have been in 12 straight Final Fours. Oh well, it isn't where you start, but rather where you finish.

Go Huskies..!!

Image result for AP Poll

The AP poll came out today and UConn comes in at No. 5 in the nation. I'm curious if Westbrook was declared eligible would the voting be different? You would think that adding a possible AA to the team ranked fifth would move them a couple of slots? I suppose you could make a case for Stanford but Maryland? Seriously?

I posted a link in the UConn Link section for UConn's perspective on the poll. There were several articles from the perspective of different teams that made poll. I linked them in the WCBB Link section!

Notre Dame is ranked 16th in the AP the lowest pre-season ranking that the Irish has had in several years. But that happens when you lose all five starters and your first two subs off the bench. I believe that adds up to 92% of their scoring from last year being gone. But you have to admire the confidence that RS Sophomore guard Katlyn Gilbert showed with this statement.

“I think we can shock the world and win the championship,” said ND’s lone home-state player, from Indianapolis. “We’re young and a lot of us are inexperienced, but I believe we have enough talent and enough heart to do that.”

Kinda reminds me of this....

By David in Naples!!!!!

urnovers are the death of an offense. Lose the ball without even shooting and you have committed the worst offensive error. Add in that many turnovers can result in an easy basket for the other team and the need to minimize turnovers is obvious. How has UConn done over the last 6 years creating turnovers?

2018-19        580 turnovers created
2017-18        672 turnovers created
2016-17        666 turnovers created
2015-16        784 turnovers created
2014-15        700 turnovers created
2013-14        667 turnovers created

So last season was the low water mark for forcing turnovers. But UConn's record of creating turnovers is far better than how often the Huskies give up the ball. Consider:

2018-19        444 turnovers
2017-18        455 turnovers
2016-17        445 turnovers
2015-16        452 turnovers
2014-15        474 turnovers
2013-14        471 turnovers

Last season was actually the best for the Huskies in 6 seasons for taking care of the ball. With Crystal and Christyn running the offense, that total may set another low mark this season.

Go Huskies..!!
