As I predicted, Olivia Nelson-Ododa was named to the Lisa Leslie Award list for centers.

Even with averaging only 3.8 PPG and 3.6 RPG her freshman season, Nelson-Ododa's summer play elevated her enough to garner this honor.

It should be really interesting to see how she takes all this hard work and parlay that into a top level performance.

Evelyn Adeboyo

Many fans are concerned about UConn's depth in the post when Olivia Nelson-Ododa is on the bench.

But I believe that Geno has taken care of that with 6'2" graduate student senior transfer Evelyn Odebayo. She started all 30 games last season for Murray State and was First Team All-OVC and All-Newcomer selection.

Odebayo led her team with 18.2 points and 11.4 rebounds per game and set program's single-season record with 19 double-doubles.

Yes, it's Murray State and most games were against a weak schedule compared to the better teams, but she had a career-high 28 points at Tennessee (12/28).

Here are two videos of highlights from her junior season. Some are from games against Tennessee and Kentucky.

Here is a short one after winning player of the week for her conference.

She is a big kid but as you can see, she has a ton of smooth moves in the post. She also has a nice short range jumper and can hit the occasional three pointer as well. I love how she can muscle a rebound and then dribble the length of the floor and finish with a multitude of moves.

So, take heart, Husky fans. This team is deep at all positions! It's gonna be a great season!

Despite the graduation of two All American's with Pheesa and Katie Lou leaving, UConn's offense should be just fine. Crystal was 3rd in scoring with 511 points and an overall shooting % of 43.1%. By comparison, Lou's overall % was only slightly higher at 45.3%. The 4th and 5th scoring threats, Megan (435 points) and Christyn (443 points) both had shooting % better than Lou. Megan hit 45.8% of her shots and Christyn made 49.9%. Olivia was 6th in scoring and made 52.3% of her shots. My point is simple, lots of great shooters are still on the roster and they will take many more shots with Lou and Pheesa gone. It happens this way every year.

Here are the total points scored by year, for the last 6 years.
2018-19     3,145 points
2017-18     3,308 points
2016-17     3,222 points
2015-16     3,346 points
2014-15     3,481 points
2013-14     3,283 points

Technically, Lou and Napheesa's last season was a down year in scoring. Given the returning scorers and the addition of two talented freshman (Anna and Aubrey), a grad student in Evelyn and possibly Evina from Tennessee, scoring will not be the issue with this squad. Defense may be another matter, however... ;)

Go Huskies..!
