Anna Makurat

Time for another look at one of the newcomers to the UConn Huskies women's basketball team. I posted about Evelyn Odebayo and Aubrey Griffin over the last couple of days. Today we look at UConn's Polish Rifle, Anna Makurat. This 6'1" freshman guard from Sierakowice, Poland is now part of the trend for UConn to look far and wide to recruits.

At 19, she is an older freshman, but along with her age, her experience in Poland gives her a big leg up on almost every freshman that has attended UConn. Anna played the last two seasons for Arka Gdynia in the Basket Liga Kobiet, Poland's top women's basketball league and was the youngest player on her team. She averaged 8.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in 2018-19, helping lead Arka Gdynia to a third-place finish. She also  represented Poland in the 2017 U-20 Women's European Championship, where she averaged 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. Clearly she is more advanced than your average freshman.

I really love this kid. She is so excited to be playing at UConn where her idol, Diana Taurasi, played. She patterns her game after her. You can't help be see that glow on her face when she talks about it.

You can really see the similarities to Taurasi when you look at Anna's highlight videos. The way she handles the ball, the way she shoots, her court vision. I'm not saying she is Taurai reincarnate, but she really does have the same skill set.

I love how she plays. She also brings some size to the backcourt something different than Dangerfield, Williams and Westbrook (if eligible). I think she can also move to the forward position and with her rebounding ability she might even play the stretch 4 on occasion.

I can't wait to see her on the court and to see what she will bring to this version of the Huskies. I have a really good feeling about this young lady. Maybe even the 5th starter?

I can never get enough of Paige Bueckers highlights. This young woman is going to start four years at UConn and lead them to more championships. She would play right now if she was eligible. Amazing!!
