It's amazing that this "Candace Parker's Revenge Tour" theory is still going strong. According to the ESPN announcers, WNBA broadcasters and mostly WCBB fans, Parker is taking every opportunity to throw the decision to cut her from the Olympic roster in the committee's face. That this is motivating her to play better than ever.

You'd think she was playing at this superhuman level. But I guess folks just like a good controversy and just don't want it to end because it's just not true.

Now, don't get me wrong. She is playing very well. Like a WNBA all-star. Which she has been her entire career. But her playing skills were never said to be the reason she was cut. I won't rehash the entire affair. We all know that some folks just thought this was the worst thing in the history of the Olympics and WBB. And maybe it was. But I'd like to address the theory that she is somehow playing better because she was cut and if that is true, what that says about her.

One fan on a particular message board said this -

"I know there were lots of reasons posed for Candace Parker's being left off the Olympic roster at the time. But now that we're five games into the WNBA season, and Parker is ripping a tornado-like path through the league, can we now say that it's beginning to look as though the selection committee really blew it?

Parker is the fifth leading scorer with nearly 21 points a game, she's eighth in rebounds with 7.5, she's tenth in blocks, and twelfth in assists. She's outscoring another roster center, Griner; she's outscoring and out rebounding roster forward Tamika Catching; she's outscoring Seimone Augustus. And she's younger than Catchings. There were hints that Parker wasn't a "team player," though they selected McCaughtry, who has been benched for long periods with no obvious physical ailments.

Can we now say that the decision to leave Parker off the roster is looking pretty bad right now?"

Wow. Ripping a tornado-like path through the league? And he justifies that comment with her being eighth in rebounds? Tenth in blocks? Twelfths in assists? Pretty low tornado standards if you ask me. More like a tropical depression, emphasis on depression.

And why make up stuff about McCoughtry (at least spell her name right), that she has been benched for long periods? She has played 29, 29, 30, 29 and 35 minutes in her games this season. AND they play totally different positions.

Is Maya Moore trying to prove a point? Or is she just the best damn player in the world?

Other than a couple of more points in her season average and a higher three point percentage, after 5 games Parker is not playing any better than any other season. She has had better numbers in every other category. EVERY OTHER CATEGORY.

In comparative season stats, she is not even that much better, if at all than Breanna Stewart A ROOKIE has.

PPG Parker 20.8, Stewart 19.0
RPG Parker 7.8, Stewart 9.8
APG Parker 4.0 Stewart 2.8
BPG Parker 1.2 Stewart 1.7
SPG Parker 1.6 Stewart 2.0
TO   Parker 2.4 Stewart 1.5

Stewart is leading in minutes, so it impacts the numbers in Stewarts favors but still. Tornado Parker has similar numbers to the rookie Stewart.

Now, if she actually IS playing harder and better this season because she is pissed off? That would be pretty pathetic. I mean, shouldn't she always play her best. Do you think Maya Moore needs motivation like that to play hard? It's all about me.....me.....me with Parker. It always has been and always will be.

I think that just about does it.
