GO UCONN!!!!!

In case you haven't seen it here is my UConn/NCST Pregame Report

Geno and Paige

What a great video package of the first baskets for the four freshman. Yes, including RS freshman Brady. I love how each shot is so different.

KK Arnold - Pull up jumper in the lane.
Q Samuels - Three pointer from the left corner
Ice Brady - Post move into a turn around lefty jumper
Ash Shade - nice cut to the hoop for a backdoor layup

No. 21 USC vs Florida Gulf Coast (Late Game)

**************************************************

Betts had UConn on her list of 11 finalists. She never cut that list. But she never visited UConn. It would be a shock if she chose the Huskies. Maybe out west with her sister at UCLA? Or the new hot spot USC?

____________________________________________

Here is something interesting. Usually after signing day, when the UConn recruits sign their LOI, Geno comments on the players now that talking about them is legal. But nothing. Not a peep from Storrs.

That probably means that Geno has more recruits that haven't signed yet. Who is it? Are there more than one?

I have no clue. But I can guess!

Betts - Maybe she didn't need to come to UConn for a visit. Maybe she did and we don't know? Maybe. Probably not.

Strong - UConn plays at North Carolin State Sunday. Strong lives in North Carolina. Will she be at the game and hand Geno her LOI? OMG....I am hopeful. It actually makes some sense. Unless she is picking NCST and is handing them her LOI. Sigh........

Straight from the Dog

It's gonna be a long season for the Big East. Most teams are down from last year. Not a good look.

Friday night St. John's blew a 10 point fourth quarter lead and lost to Monmouth 74-69. Seton Hall lost to Columbia 72-61. Not a good look.

The SEC is struggling as well. Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU already lost. Georgia is about to lose to Belmont. Arkansas squeaked by Murray State.

Just a litte more parity in WCBB.

----------------------------------------------------------

When looking for news articles to link in my UConn Link section I came across two articles on the UConn/NCST game with predictions.

The first one was clearly a North Carolina site. It predicted a 73-70 NCST win. Shocking. But then the second article was from WFSB, Channel 3 in Hartford. To my surprise it was exactly the same article and prediction. Talk about lazy. Do your own work WFSB.

Attendance curiosities

Good

Iowa exhibition 55,646
This game was heavily hyped, with the potential for disaster (an outdoor game in mid October) But a public relations success setting the all-time record for attendance at a woman's basketball game.

Iowa Virgina Tech neutral court

Charlotte Sports Foundation partnered with Ally financial to create the Ally Tipoff event. Women's basketball games in neutral arenas (other than final four games) have rarely been attendance draws, but this event, obviously helped by the star power of Caitlin Clark Do fifteen thousand fans to an arena that's was a three hour drive from the closest team. That's impressive.

Meh

I like the innovative marketing angle and while it was fun to watch Notre Dame versus South Carolina in Paris, only 3,203 were in attendance. Professional basketball in Europe seems to do better than in the United States so I thought there would be more people showing up.

Bad

Ranked Florida State is hosting ranked Tennessee and only 2898 show up? That's embarrassing.

Mississppi is ranked 12th in the country And only 2030 fans showed up for the game against Oklahoma. They deserve the loss.

Pac12 undefeated

As of this writing, the Pac 12 is still undefeated, the only conference without a loss.
Only three games on Friday with Pac 12 teams favored in all.

The best chance for a lost might be Florida Gulf Coast against USC but the way that USC is playing that doesn't seem likely.

If they win those three they have no Saturday games, but Stanford faces Indiana Sunday night. (Plus Oregon State takes on Villanova) Will they still be undefeated at the end of the weekend?

Milestone watch

• Aaliyah Edwards has 1232 career points. In the Dayton game, she passed Jessica Moore and Megan Walker to into 43rd place. She is 12 behind Kris Lamb

• Nika Mühl has 438 assists. She needs 4 to tie Kia Nurse for 20th place
