So, I frequent a few message boards to check the pulse of UConn nation. There is always some great info on the team and on recruits that I bring to my blog.
Tonight I was on one of those sites and I see a post that says Sarah Strong signed with LSU. The poster added "Looks like a trend".
I was immediately bummed out. Strong is a huge get and I was really hoping it would be UConn. This poster also added another link say it verified the first one.
Ok...now take a deep breath.
I did an internet search and could not find anything relating to Strong and LSU. Now, LSU did sign the No. 1 recruit....in Louisiana.
I checked the best source for recruiting news and there was nothing there. Crickets.
I double checked the second link that was supposed to verify the first link and all it said was Strong is a player of interest for LSU, not that she signed.
On last thing. The article that said she signed with LSU was from yesterday afternoon. You'd think the No. 1 recruit signing would be all over the interne.t
Bottom line, it was a bogus article. Maybe they got confused. For sure the poster that brought it to a message board was an idiot. That much I know.
Well, that was fun! I watched the No. 11 Tennessee Lady Vols take on No. 18 FSU in a game of two evenly matched and ranked teams.
It was a crazy game. FSU was on fire early. They were up 34-20 in the first quarter. Tennessee came back with a 12-2 run, closing to 36-32 but then to end the quarter, FSU outscored the Lady Vols 18-14 for a 54-46 lead at the half.
First team to 100 wins?
Tennessee has three players scoring. Jackson with 18, and Pucket and Spear with 9 each. That's 36 of the 46 points. Same for the Seminoles. They have 15 points for Latson, 16 for Gordon and 14 for Tucker. FSU had 6 made threes in the first quarter. Wow. 9-14 at the half.
Tennessee kept the game close in the second half, hitting a bunch of threes and they took a lead in the fourth quarter.
In the end, Amaya Bonner made Florida State’s 13th 3-pointer of the game to tie it at 91-all. Tennessee forward Rickea Jackson grabbed an offensive rebound on the ensuing possession but missed a putback before fouling Alexis Tucker with 24.9 seconds left. Tucker went 1 of 2 from the stripe to put Florida State ahead.
Tennessee elected not to call a timeout and Jackson got into the lane, but her fadeaway jumper rolled off and the buzzer sounded before a putback attempt.
O’Mariah Gordon scored 22 points, Ta’Niya Latson added 20 points for FSU. Tennessee was led by their superstar Rickea Jackson who had 31 points and 17 rebounds in an outstanding effort.
Maybe the key play of the game was this as posted by a friend of mine. "After getting fouled on a breakaway layup that she made, Tess got into the face of the player who fouled her. Tess missed the and one free throw and the Florida St player made both technical fouls. Tennessee was on a 16-2 run and had all the momentum. And then they didn't."
Looks like LSU's sweet tooth was satisfied Thurday night. They played Queen. No, not the band, althought the score would have been similar. They played Queen University. Why? Ask Mulkey.
The Tigers won 112-55 over the Royals. And in typical LSU fashion, poured it on against the overmatched Queen team in the fourth quarter, 26-5.
The Bully of WCBB Angel Reese scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to add to her double double totals. Aneesh Morrow woke up in the second half for 16 points. And the new point guard for LSU underperformed with only 3 points all on free throws and 3 assists. Pretty weak performance if you ask me. Super Freshman guard Williams came back to earth with 9 points, 1 rebounds and 2 assists. Meh.
But all is good. The Tigers will continue to roll over their cupcake schedule.
They play Mississippi Valley State, Kent State, SE Louisiana, Texas Southern and Niagra before the next possible challenging game against Virginia and Virginia Tech in back to back games.
I'd be turning in my season tickets.
