GO UCONN!!!!!

Well, that was ugly. Really ugly. And I didn't have to see the game to know that.

Of course, Paige was spectacular with 31 points and 5 three pointers, but most games one player can't beat a  team as good as UCLA.

Sadly she had very little support from anyone else other than Griffin and Arnold, who came alive in the second half. Disappointment of the game was Aaliyah Edwards, who didn't come close to playing like an All-American. 2-12 from the field for 5 points and she only grabbed 5 rebounds before fouling out. UConn can't win with her playing like that.

The three freshmen off the bench played like freshmen in a big game. They were 1-9 from the field with Shade the only basket, a three pointer. The Huskies need more from these three players.

The Huskies had a terrible start to the game, down in the first quarter 28-10. They made a good comeback in the second quarter closing to 39-34 outscoring the Bruins 22-11.

But another really slow start to the second half pushed the lead out to 19 points at one point as UCLA shut down UConn outscoring them 22-8 in the quarter.

The only positive is they did NOT give up. They worked hard in the fourth quarter and closed the gap to 10 points but just didn't have enough time to get any closer before losing 78-67. They outscored UCLA 25-17.

It's hard sometimes to overcome obstacles. And for the third season in a row, UConn is hurting. Keep on supporting the team. Your positive vibes can go a long way to help the team. Really. I'm not kidding!!

GO HUSKIES!!!!!

Princeton’s Kaitlyn Chen is now being followed by Coach Valley on Instagram.

It was announced in September that Kaitlyn would be using her fifth-year of eligibility as a grad-xfer (for the ‘24-25 season) since the Ivy League doesn’t allow a fifth year. She would be a great addition to next years roster!

Straight from the Dog

I've been giving LSU a hard time for their weak schedule. And it's well deserved. They have played some bigtime cupcakes over the last two seasons.

But this game takes the cupcake. No. 1 South Carolina embassed themselves and women's basketball in general totally mortifying Mississippi Valley State winning 101-19. No, I didn't mistype. 101-19.

Now, I'm not saying that Dawn didn't do her best to keep the score down. But to score only 19 points, you have to put some blame on the team that couldn't shoot straight.

The numbers are astounding, and would be an easy call for an UGGY Award. And the numbers would probably win the UGGY of the year award as well. So I'm debating whether or not to pile on this poor team. Hey, hopefully they made some money playing this game. So, UGGY Award it is!!

The Deviletes shot 8-67 from the field. Hey, that is a TON of shots. Were their eyes closed? They shot 1-19 on threes, the lowest percentage of the season for teams with more than 15 threes. Ok, I made that one up, but I bet it's true! And they were doubled up on rebounds, with only 33 to South Carolina's 66.

Did I mention they scored only 19 points? So congrats to MVS! A well deserved UGGY Award. I'm rooting for you to win it all!!!

(Before the UCLA game)

Very hard to be happy after today's news about Azzi being out for the season. But the remaining players need support and excited fans.

So here are 7 reasons to try to be happy and cheer for the Huskies this weekend in the Cayman's tournament..!!

1. Qadence is 3rd on the team in scoring with 31 points..! She was not even the most heralded freshman.
2. After giving up 92 points to NC State, UConn defense held the next two opponents to 92 points combined..!
3. Nika has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 6.33 (19 assists vs 3 to's).
4. Paige leads the team in defensive rebounds with 22. Aubrey leads with 11 o-boards. Aaliyah has the most overall with 28 total.
5. With Azzi out, there are still nine players averaging 12 or more minutes per game.
6. Nika, KK, Ice and Q are all shooting 40% or better from 3 pt range.
7. Opponents have missed 66% of shots taken and hit only 27.4% from three range.

They say what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. I hope so...

Go Huskies..!!

STATS

Plus one for every assist block point rebound and steal. I don’t add extra for offensive rebounds as it already seems to favor the bigs. Minus one for every missed shot (2, 3 or foul), turnover or foul committed.
