Marquette Season to Date
Another solid start for Marquette but the schedule has been a little weak so far. They are 7-3 and tied for first in the Big East at 2-0.
They started the season with a thrashing of Winthrop beating them 89-57. They followed with a nice win over a Power 5 conference team beating Wisconson 65-62 in overtime.
I'm not sure what happened in their next game but they went to Minnesota and got their butts kicked losing 90-47. Clearly their low point of the season.
And in their up and down season, lost to No. 10 Iowa State 84-73 and then lost to a tough Gonazaga team 65-61. Those are good margins in their losses.
They handled their first two Big East opponents beating up on DePaul 85-54 and then hammering Butler 80-55.
In their last game before taking on the Huskie, Marquette took LeMoyne to the woodshed, beating them 89-42.
Coming into the UConn game, Marquette won their last three games by 31, 25, and 47. Weak opponents but the Golden Eagles will be coming to Hartford with some confidence.

Game Analysis
Last season Marquette had lost all their starters to graduation or portal. This is the second season for head coach Cara Consuega. And Marquette has all those new starters from last season back this year.
6'3" junior forward Skylar Forbes is the big in the starting lineup. Tall but not wide, she really runs the court well. She is averaging 15.8 PPG and 3.9 RPG. She is also the best three point shooter on the team hitting 42.6% on 5.4 takes per game and leads the team in blocks with 18. And all big east possibility.
Lee Volker is a 6'1" senior guard. She averages 11.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 3.8 APG. She certainly brings some size to the guard position. She has taken and made the second most three pointers on the team shooting them at an efficient 39%.
6'1" junior Haile Vice is another big guard. Vice is averaging 13.2 PPG and a team leading 8 RPG. She is second on the team in blocks with 9.
Jaidynn Mason is a 5'6" senior who transferred from Southern Illinois before last season. This season she is averaging 9.9 PPG and a team leading 4.0 assists per game.
The final starter is Charlotte transfer 5'8" senior Guard Olivia Porter. The stocky guard averages 6.2 PPG. and she has really impoved her shooting this sesaon, 54% from the field and 8-16 on threes.
Off the bench, Marquette does have one big.
Jordan Meulemans is a transfer from Butler. She sat out last season recovering from an ACL injury and surgery. She is averaging 5.7 PPG and is playing over 20 MPG.
6'3" sophomore transfer from Georgia Tech Jada Bediako. She only played 9 games for the Yellow Jackets. For Marquette she is averaging 3.3 PPG and 3.9 MPG in 13.5 MPG.
One more transfer. 5'8" guard from Syracuse two years ago, Kennedi Perkins gets close to 20 MPG. She is averaging 2.4 PPG and 1.4 RPG. She is getting less minutes this season due to the transfer in by Meulemans.
Defensively, the Golden Eagles play exclusively a man-to-man. They double any entry passes but are not that quick to get back out to the shooter. UConn will take advantage of that. I don't think The Golden Eagles have a player that can guard Strong so look for her to have a big game.
Offensively, there is a lot of one-on-one without a lot passing. There were many possessions where whoever had the ball, dribbled around and then made a move to the basket.
UConn will try to uptempo this game. They have been putting a lot of pressure on the ball and will run on almost every defensive rebound. Marquette is still is very physical and hopefully no one gets hurt.
Prediction
Well, this is pretty much the same Marquette teams this season as last season. So what were the results last year? UConn won easily, 77-45 and 92-57.
There is not much to say. Marquette is a decent team but this UConn team is something special. I'm sure Strong is looking for a bounceback game after her "unusual" performance against USC.
I really like Forbes and expect her to have a good game. But it won't nearly be enough to keep it close.
UConn by 40+.
