UConn beat Maryland Sunday 81-58, moving into the Championship Game against Notre Dame, who beat South Carolina in a nail biter, 66-65. This will be the FIFTH consecutive Final Four that UConn and Notre Dame have met and sixth overall. More on that matchup later.
Wow....what a fun game to watch between Notre Dame and South Carolina. The only basket by Madison Cable put Notre Dame in front with 16 seconds remaining in the game. Tiffany Mitchell missed a forced three pointer after some terrific defense by Notre Dame.
With Lindsay Allen on the bench for much of the game and ineffective for the time she played, Jewell Loyd carried the scoring load for the Irish along with their two posts players, Turner with 17 and Reimer with 16. Reimer was terrific with her mid range jumper again.
South Carolina has nothing to be ashamed about. They held the high scoring Irish to 66 points and 40% shooting. A'ja Wilson was terrific with 20 points and 9 rebounds for South Carolina. I don't think that we will ever see her come off the bench again. They had a terrific season and will be a great team again next year. They only lose Welch and Ibiam. Coates and Wilson will more than make up for those players.
