Here is my UConn/California Pre Game Report

*********************************************************************************

Well, that was fun! I watched the announcement ceremony that Olivia Nelson-Ododa had at her high school Wednesday at 2:00. Well, closer to 2:30 with all the speeches. But it was well done and well worth it to see this young women announce for the Huskies!!!

This is one talented young woman. She was ranked number one in her class before her knee injury last season and I wouldn't be surprised of she ended up a few places higher than her number 5 ranking once she shows she is playing at the same level post injury.

"They have a legendary program and I felt like I could really get a balance of athletics and academics."

Losing number 2 Charli Collier was a blow to UConn for the 2018 class but boy, have they made up for it!!

So, if you haven't seen her in action, here are a couple of videos Enjoy and dream of the great future for UConn Women's basketball!!!!

I'm so happy for former Husky Natalie Butler. The move to George Mason was the best thing for her.

She had 20 pts, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks in George Mason's win over Loyola.

Big Nights from Newcomers Propel Patriots to First Win

She had 16 points in the second half and really pushed the Patriots to a nice win after trailing for much of the game.

Go Natalie!!!!

So, back to recruiting. I'm not one to be impressed with big classes if they don't have top players.

My friend Eric did a nice job of putting together a list of top ten 2018 recruiting classes. I tend to agree although I still think UConn might be No. 1!!!

1. Baylor - 4, 8, 15, 18, 24
2. UCONN - 1, 5
3, Texas - 2, 12, 56, 1 NR
4. FSU - 6, 35, 40, 64, 82
5. Maryland 3, 32, 33
6. Syracuse - 10, 11, and 2 NR
7. Tennessee - 13, 26, 44, 69
8. South Carolina - 9, 50
9. Stanford - 16, 20, 1 NR

I remember a few years ago fans of other teams were (and still are) laughing at UConn being in the AAC, an also ran conference. They laughed when UConn had a one player class in Sanyia Chong who was 99 in the ESPN rankings.

Many said that UConn would not be able to get the top players, that these players only want to play in power conference. But since that first season when UConn went to the AAC , they have recruited the follow player rankings....

2014 - 14,17,31
2015 - 1,6,23
2016 - 3,NR,NR
2017 - 1,13,16,29
2018 - 1,5

What is amazing to me is UConn was able to get three No. 1's in the last four years. And good news Husky fans....they are working hard on 1,2,and 11 in the 2019 class. I wouldn't bet against them.

UConn currently has a one-game winning streak. If the Huskies were to play this whole season without a loss, and finish with 38 or 39 wins, that would pass their winning streaks of 33 (1997) and 35 (1996). But, it would still be only the fifth-best streak in UConn history. Here are the top five all-time winning streaks, including the one Louisiana Tech had in 1980-82.

1. UConn  111 wins (2015-17)
2. UConn  90 wins (2008-11)
3. UConn  70 wins (2001-03)
4. La. Tech 54 wins (1980-82)
5. UConn  47 wins  (2013-15)

The Huskies' streaks of 35 and 33 games ranked 11th and 12th in all-time victories. But, showing the complete list would have required writing the name of that orange school (46 wins) and the one with the leprechaun (37 wins).  Notice that Duke is nowhere on the list. 8-)

It is a long season and nothing is guaranteed. But, UConn likes having a long winning streak and this is a good time to start yet another.

Go Huskies..!!

I don't pay attention to that talk anymore. because UConn beats the crap out of the best teams from the so-call power 5s all day every day
