My Florida granddaughters had a great time in NYC today. One went to a Broadway play (Aladdin) and the other went to the Museum of Natural History.

Great game today at the XL center Sunday where UConn just hammered No. 15 Maryland 97-72.

Here was my stellar prediction from my UConn/Maryland preview - "With or without Samuelson, UConn just still too talented for Maryland. UConn by 25+".

Not too bad, huh?

I was fortunate enough to be able to see this game in person from a great vantage point thanks to my friend Carol, the nice woman that has that great UConn Puppet at every game.

She was unable to make this game and I was fortunate enough to use her tickets. One of the best UConn fans around!!

Anyway, UConn was just amazing and the depth of talent in the 6 player rotation is just stunning. Katie Lou misses the game and the Huskies were still up by 40 at one point in the third quarter.

What you don't really see when you watch in person and up close is the speed of this UConn team, especially Gabby Williams. She has amazing explosion in her dribbling. So strong, the opponent has no chance of slowing her down. Jaw dropping speed. In this game Gabby had a triple double in points, rebounds and unfortunately turnovers. She physically was amazing in this game. Mentally? Not so much. Way to many dumb passes. 25 turnovers for the team was just unacceptable. Period.

Dangerfield's shot was off but she was great at breaking the pressure that Maryland applied. The Terrapins were determined to force the Huskies into mistakes. Sometimes it worked but mostly it sped up the game so UConn was able to score 97 points.

Nurse was terrific, going 5-8 on threes in scoring her team leading 21 points. She played her usual great defense and no on hustles like she does.

Collier had a double double in her 32 minutes with 12 points and 11 rebounds. She is still struggling with her shot, going 6-14. For a 60% shooter, that is not good. It won't last.

Azura? Oh my. She is so impressive in person. She is like Inspector Gadget with her go go gadget arms. They just extend out for rebounds that others would have no chance at. She also had a double double, the third UConn player in this game to do so. In 29 minutes she had 18 points and 12 rebounds. She only went 1-4 on threes, but she needs to keep shooting them. I watched her in practice and it's a beautiful shot.

As an aside, I watched Maryland in the shoot around and they made maybe 15 in a row. It just shows that shooting unguarded is very different than when you have UConn pressure in your face.

The bench had it's moments in this game. We saw what Megan Walker is going to bring to this team. She has a real scorer's mentality and a nose for the ball. In her 20 minutes she had 12 points, and 7 rebounds. She just looked better in this outing. More confidence. She will keep improving I'm sure and that will be fun to watch. Hunter-Espinoza was the next player off the bench and while she had a couple of mistakes (everyone did) I was so happy to see her let it fly when she was open. She is an amazing shooter and just needs to have confidence. Hey, even Molly had a basket on a layup with a nice little move to the basket!!

Overall, a great game leading into the UCLA game.

Here are a couple of post game videos. Here is my full UCLA pregame report. That one should be a barn burner!!

Christyn averaged over thirty points in the Paragould tourney (11/16 - 11/18). Here is the highlight package is from those three games. She is good. Very very good.

Congratulation to the UConn Field Hockey team for bringing home the National Championship. Not a good day for Maryland. Around the same time UConn finished slapping them around in basketball, UConn beat them 2-1 for the NC.

A great team. Undefeated at 24-0, a remarkable season for our Huskies. They have won 5 national championships and three in the last five years. Amazing.

Latest word about Samuelson is that she is week to week. Not as good as day to day, but not as bad as month to month.

Too bad she won't get to play against UCLA in a homecoming game. UConn does visit California next season I believe.

One upset in the top 25 when No. 11 Duke lost to Villanova 64-55. Not a very good performance by what I consider a very over-ranked team.

The Blue Devils shot only 37% from the field, 2-12 on threes, had only 8 assists, 8 points in the 3rd quarter and gave up 15 threes.

Their two AA candidates had weak games. Rebecca Greenwell had 9 points going 1-5 on threes and didn't have an assist. Lexi Brown did have 16 points, but was also only 1-5 on threes and had only 1 assist and 2 turnovers.

Other interesting Top 25 tidbits -

I have to say that the SEC has really looked like a much weaker conference than their rankings have been. I predict that their bottom two teams in the rankings, Missouri and Kentucky, will be out of the rankings soon. Probably as soon as they play good teams. Both scraped by teams that a ranked team should beat by 15+.

UConn's last opponent was California, who won their Sunday game beating Brown by only 10 points, 89-79. Their terrific center, Kristine Anigwe had 28 points and a career-high 25 rebounds.

Another UConn opponent won as Stanford beat CSU Bakersfield 57-34. Looks to me like Stanford is still struggling on offense. Could be a long season for the Cardinal.

By David in Naples!!!!!

UConn has crushed three straight ranked opponents by scoring 88 combined points in the 1st period. The defense has held #10 Stanford, #20 California and #15 Maryland to a combined 32 first period points. That is a point differential of 56 points for just the first 10 minutes of each game.

For the 2nd period of those 3 games, UConn increased the difference in points another 25 points. Total difference for UConn is +81 points, in just the first 2 periods.

Offensively, the Huskies have scored 78, then 82, then 97 points. Nice progress...!!

Go Huskies..!!
