    Providence Season to Date

The Friars have had an up and down season winning 7 and losing 7. According to Massey, they have played 5 teams with a rating of under 100 and lost 4, the lastest is their opening BE game against Seton Hall.

Their 7 wins are against teams ranked 150+.

They are who they are.

 Game Analysis

What Providence has is experience and tons of it. They return 4 starters and 7 of the 8 players that I listed. The 5th starter is a grad student from Xavier.  They have 5 seniors and 3 grad students in their rotation. I don't think there is a more experienced team in the country.

Last year Olivia Olson was the begining, the middle and the end for Providence. She led the team in scoring at 14.2 PPG, rebounding at 8.8 RPG, FG percentage at 53.5%, tookj the most shots, the most foul shots, and most blocks. The 6'3" senior is just a terrific player. However her scoring is down this year to 7.8 PPG. I'm not sure why.

Leading scorer is Grace Efosa, 5'11" Grad Student Guard. She is the only double digit scorer at 16.0 PPG and leads in assists with 2.5 APG.

Emily Archibald is a  6'0" Senior, Forward. She averages 4.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Emily is not much of a three-point threat averaging only .38 per game.

Brynn Farrell is a 6'0" Graduate, Guard.  Brynn averages 8.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1 steal per game. She almost averages 1 three-pointer per game.

MacKayla Scarlett is the transfer from Xavier. The 5'10" Graduate Student Guard averaging 4.6 points, 1.9 rebounds.

Same as last yearI don't think the coach knows who the starters are until just before the opening tip. They have had 10 different players start this season and countless combinations. I listed the one from the most recent game.

UConn will probably start the same players with Shade still there and Fudd off the bench. It's great to see a 9 players rotation.

Final Prediction

Yes, maybe the most experienced team in the country. But in this case, you have more of the same. Good players, but not good enough to compete with UConn. These same players other than the new transfer from Xavier, lost last season to the Huskies 85-4165-42, and in the BE Tournament 86-53

The Friars play a rough and tumble style and if the refs allow that style the score will be tamped down. But at home, the Huskies should be able to play through that kind of play. I expect to see plenty of offense from UConn. There is a huge discrepancy in talent.

Not much more to say about this game. It's one of the Big East games where UConn can dictate the final score.

GO HUSKIES!!
