Congrats to Kia Nurse for being names AAC player of the week!!!! In honor of that, David has come up with a list of Kia Numbers!

In a game where UConn scored 113 points, it might be hard to pinpoint one critical basket. One could argue it came at the 8:45 mark of the 1st period. The Huskies had missed their first two shots, given up a three-point basket and then a three-point play, the old fashion way. The score was 6-0 Temple, Katie Lou was in warm-ups and out for the game. UConn needed offense quickly to end the Owls hopes and #11 took charge. Kia calmly nailed a three from the right corner. UConn's faithful sat down and breathed a sigh of relief. Then, a minute later, she grabbed an offensive rebound and laid it back up to keep UConn close at 8-7. Kia went on to score 24 points on 9-13 shooting, including 4 threes. This is what she has done all season... ;) Consider:

1. Kia leads the team in total points scored with 281. (Z is 2nd with 266)
2. She has the most made three-point shots at 47. (Crystal is 2nd with 36)
3. Nurse also leads in 3 point % at an even 50%. (Crystal is at 48%)
4. Kia has played a team-high 590 minutes or 32.8 minutes per game.
5. Nurse is the best free throw shooter for the Huskies with 40 makes and 80% accuracy.
6. Inside the arc, Kia is shooting 67% at 50-75.

In addition to her offensive stats, Nurse has become the main shut-down defender, against the other team's leading scorer. Tanaya Atkinson, for Temple, took 14 shots to make her 15 points. Her average coming in was 23 pts per game. Her 3 rebounds were seven below her average. The 4 turnovers versus only 1 assist are probably no fluke either.

Can a Canadian become an All-American...? It's happening before our eyes..!! :)

Go Kia..!!
Go Huskies..!!

Olivia Nelson-Ododa had a nice game Friday as well with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Two top 25 games and one more upset.

No. 12 Ohio State was clobbered by No. 14 Maryland 99-69. A totally embarrassing loss.Personally I think Ohio State has been overrated all season. Their defense is always second rate and it showed against the Terps. But still, a good win for Brenda and her team.

By David in Naples!!!!!

Geno is a genius....part 2. Megan Walker played 16 minutes in the ill-fated Tulsa game. She was part of the "hockey line change" in the 2nd quarter when Geno put in 5 subs and yelled, "Go ahead and do it your way."  Walker went 0-2, made 4-4 free throws, grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 turnovers. As a group, the subs went 1-13 and the play was really sad to watch. After the game, Geno blasted the player's poor play and said they must learn or sit. :o

Three days later, at Temple, Geno brings in Megan at the 5:40 mark of the 1st period, in place of Azura. She plays 32 minutes total, scores 22 points, grabs 6 rebounds, has 5 assists and one steal. The rest of the bench went 6-7 shooting and played great team basketball. Same players, very different results. Geno is back to being the master motivator and mad scientist.

Geno's substitution pattern against Temple was brilliant. He brought Megan in to play with Kia, Crystal, Gabby, and Napheesa. Her first two plays were a turnover and missed jumper, but Geno leaves her in. Her next four plays were a rebound, an assist, and 2 brilliant baskets. He starts her in the 2nd period and she plays the whole quarter. Megan gets 5 more points, 2 more assists, and a rebound. After the half, Geno subs Walker in just 1:32 into the 3rd period. She ends up with 32 minutes and 22 points. Confidence restored, the rest is history.

Next up is Memphis on Wednesday..!

Go Huskies..!!
