More from David

The 2nd biggest loser in the Ohio State loss to Iowa is Duke. Duke sits 16-5 and ranked #18 in the country, but their signature win was over then #8 Ohio State, earlier in the year. With the Iowa loss, Ohio State is now also 16-5 and falling in the rankings. They were down to #12 before the loss, probably headed to #15 or lower. That leaves Duke with just a win over #17 Oregon State, at home, as their only claim to being a decent team. Coming up for the Dukies is #5 Notre Dame and #8 Florida State. Both games are at home, where the Blue Flowers have feasted on patsies. Uh oh..... :o

By David in Naples!!!!!

This season, six different Huskies have led UConn in scoring, in a particular game. (The Core Four plus Crystal and Azura) Clearly, the Huskies offense presents a challenge to any opponent's defensive game plan. Try to double anyone player and you leave a good scorer open. The least hyped Husky, Kia, is leading the team in scoring with 288 points. Exactly 50% or 144 of those points have come from three-point range. Z and Napheesa are tied for 2nd in scoring with 284 points each. Of their combined 568 points, only 45 pts or 8% have come from outside the arc. Those two are the inside threat, while Kia is an outside threat. 8-)

Katie Lou is in 4th place in scoring with 236 points. Her per game average is higher at 16.9 ppg, but she has missed 5 of UConn's 19 games. KLS has both an inside and outside way of scoring. Her 35 threes account for 105 points, while her 47 closer in baskets totals 94 points. Crystal has scored 217 points and her 38 threes total 114 of those points. The remaining 43 baskets are a combination of pull up jumpers and slashing drives to the hoop. The 6th leading scorer is Gabby at 194 points. She is 0-4 from three range but is probably the most explosive player on the roster. Her 84 baskets are the result of both pull up jumpers and lay up that start at the foul line and end with her hand touching the rim & gently laying up the ball. Her team-leading 88 assists indicate she looks to pass more often than she tries to score.  :D

The least publicized Husky way of scoring is free throws. The team is 225-300 or 75%, so fouling them to prevent baskets is useless. All six of the leading scorers makes free throws at 70% or better. The best is Z at 80.4%..!  :o  She has tried the 2nd most free throws at 51. (Kia has the most at 53.)

The Huskies have scored 1,721 points so far this season, good for a 90.6 ppg average. Together, the top six have scored 87.3% of that total. But, the leading scorer has only 16.7% of the total, while the 6th scorer has 11.3%. Good balance and too many great scorers to cover..!!

Go Huskies..!!
