After reading several articles on how good losers UConn was, Geno and the players complimenting Mississippi State and handling such a tough loss with grace, it's a little small of me to not post about the championship game. After all, this is a blog not only about UConn but about WCBB in general.
So I posted a Pre Game report for the Mississippi State/South Carolina game. And I will post about the game after it is over.
And here is David's Numbers and a bunch of links.

Sometimes Fun with Numbers is not fun. This is one of those times. Last night's UConn loss is perfectly explained by the numbers. Consider:
1. Any time you turn the ball over 17 times in a close, overtime game, that is too much. The last turnover gave MSU 12 seconds to try a game winning shot.
2. The Huskies missed 8 free throws, including several at key times. Make even one of the eight and UConn wins.
3. Collier went 4-11 and missed a couple of very short shots. Not to blame her for the loss, but most of the misses she could make in her sleep. Bad day to have a bad game.
4. The assists were hard to come by and UConn finished with only 11. The extra pass for an easy lay up wasn't there last night. The team that set the all time UConn record for assists in a season was only average versus MSU. ( Credit their defense, too...)
5. When you make only 20 baskets, you are leaving the door open for an upset. Make any of the 26 shots that were missed and the Huskies win. But, they didn't and lost.
6. UConn avoided major foul trouble most of the season. In the 4th quarter and overtime, Pheesa & Gabby had 4 fouls and Nurse & Saniya had 3. They were careful not to foul out, but could not play aggressive defense. It showed.
This team overachieved. One lost in the season is truly remarkable, but that loss coming at the end of the season is heartbreaking.
Go Huskies, next year..!!
