Image result for happy days are here again

So many great things happened over the last few days for this amazing UConn program, I don't know where to start.

I didn't think anything could dominate the UConn news like making another final four but yet here we are.

I was going to start with Napheesa voted in as a First Team AA in the AP voting. Not only that, she got the most votes. That might portend well for here  being voted Player of the Year. We shall see. But that is still not the biggest news.

No, this is not an April Fools joke. The No. 1 2020 recruit, Paige Beuckers has committed to UConn. This is really really big. Really!!!

After a year where Jones went to Stanford, Boston to South Carolina and Horston to Tennessee, many fans were on the ledge about UConn's ability to get the great recruits. I can't tell you how many fans were posting over and over again that Beuckers was going to Notre Dame or even Minnesota. I just love it when the negative nellies get slapped in the face with good UConn news.

So, who is Paige Beuckers? More experts consider her a game changer. Another generational talent. And I agree wholeheartedly. The 5'11" point guard reminds me of Diana Taurasi in many ways. She's got the complete game. She can get to the basket at will with her incredible dribbling ability. Her court vision is just off the charts. She has perfected the pull up jumper and lastly she has unlimited range on her three pointer. When she comes to UConn, I fully expect her to start as a freshman point guard and team up with junior Christyn Williams in the backcourt to form a devastating backcourt.

More good news should follow. She is like the Pied Piper of the 2020 class. UConn is in with a few more 2020 top ten players. The ice has been broken. Look for more!! And one more thing. Maybe you have heard of her best friend who she attended several UConn games with? Azzi Fudd? Yeah, that Fudd. The No. 1 player in the 2021 class and a National POY as a sophomore.

So, for your viewing pleasure, here are as many highlight videos that I can find. Remember to wipe the drool off your chin. She will amaze you. Also, plenty of links on this too.

Well, in the "no surprise" category, Baylor just hammered Iowa into submission winning 85-53 and will move into the Final Four against Oregon. The Bears two bigs, Cox and Brown, dominated on the defensive end early and Cox was just a handful on offense. Baylor is just a really good team. It should be a great game against Oregon!!!

A tough finish for Iowa's Megan Gustavson, who still scored 23 points and had 9 rebounds. But she had 5 turnovers and just had no answer for the bigger Bears.

Stanford gave Notre Dame a battle but it was just too much Irish offense as they dominated the second half winning 84-68. The Cardinal held a 7 point halftime lead 33-26 and even pushed it to ten but then Notre Dame slowly closed the gap and Stanford couldn't make a shot. The Irish zone defense was just too active for Stanford.

Man, I just can't stand Notre Dame and Smug Muff. She had a 12 point lead with a minute left and still had three starters in for the rest of the game. And they had the ball with 24 seconds left and didn't run out the clock. Yeah, play to the end, but they are such miserable sports.

So now it's UConn and Notre Dame. Again.

Christyn Williams is still a freshman, right? Technically, yes. But in terms of basketball skill and performance she's graduating much sooner. In the first four games of the NCAA tournament, when the games are "Win or Go Home", Squeaks has been absolutely fabulous. Consider:

1. Points - In four games, Williams scored 68 points or 17 points per game. That was almost 7 points above her season average. :D
2. Assists - Christyn passed out 14 assists in the 4 games so far. That compares very well to only 6 turnovers, giving a ratio of 2.33
3. Rebounds - Despite sharing point guard duties with Crystal, Squeaks was asked to help on the boards. She responded with 16 rebounds, including 8 offensive rebounds.
4. Free throws - Does 8-10 or 80% sound like the stats of a nervous freshman? Obviously not.. 8-)
5. Three-point shots - Christyn raised her 3 point accuracy to 43.5% from her season average of 36%. She was 10-23 from beyond the arc.
6. Personal fouls - Even while ramping up her defensive effort, Williams managed to avoid foul trouble with only 7 fouls in 4 games.
7. Minutes - Squeaks played 148 minutes out of 160 possible minutes in the last 4 games. She played all 40 minutes in each of the last two games against UCLA and Louisville. Any see her looking tired? ;)

Christyn looks like an upperclassman and plays with confidence and skill. She steps up when asked and supports when needed. Quite a four-game stretch for the freshman. Go Christyn..!!

Go Huskies..!!
