Big News From Notre Dame

During pregame radio interview before the Notre Dame/TCU game, Coach McGraw announced Taya Reimer has left Notre Dame Women's Basketball for balance of 2015-16 season for personal reasons.

This is the second time that Reimer is leaving the basketball team. She sat out last season for two games after announcing she was going to transfer but she changed her mind and stayed the season. This all happened shortly after Reimer led the team in protest of the Eric Gardner choking by a NYC police officer. They all wore "I Can't Breath" tee shirts. There were some rumors that McGraw was not supportive behind the scenes.

This time seems different. For one, she is not going to play but will still be on scholarship and stay in school academically. Secondly, she really is suffering with her Achilles injury. She played in the game prior to Saturday's game and struggled with her jumping  and overall level of play. I'm sure that played into her decision.

I hope things work out for this young lady. Based on staying in school, she could be back playing again next season. But it's certainly not a sure thing.

This is certainly a big blow to the team's aspirations this season. With Notre Dame's other post presence Brianna Turner out for a few weeks and maybe for the season, the Irish will be going with the lineup that UConn faced last week. They will beat a lot of teams with small ball but if they have a cold game, they could be bounced earlier in the NCAA's than prior years.

UConn's other recent tough opponent No. 18 DePaul upset No. 15 Texas A&M 80-66. Well, maybe not an upset against another weak SEC team.

Megan Podkowa, who struggled in the UConn game, scored 20 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. She had TEN offensive rebounds. That is just an amazing feat. DePaul continues to impress and will soon be in the top ten in my opinion if they can beat No. 12 Northwestern on the road 12/19.

In another top twenty-five upset, No. 24 Arizona State beat No. 19 Syracuse 61-54. The game was played on Syracuse's home court in front of 524 disinterested fans. Syracuse and their coward coach can't lose enough for me.

During the UConn/Florida State game an impromptu game of dodgeball broke out. Looks like Gabby Williams has eliminated the referee!
