Here is my UConn/DePaul Post Game Report

*********************************************************************************

Since the moment she was recruited Crystal Dangerfield had a big legacy to live up to. The comparisons to Moriah Jefferson were inevitable and at times unfair. Many fans would look at the senior season Jefferson and wonder how the freshman Dangerfield could ever live up to those expectations.

The only thing that is fair is to compare them at the same time in their careers. Let's star with their freshman seasons.

Jefferson -  MPG 17.4, PPG 4.6, RPG 1.6, APG 1.8, FG%  42.4, 3PT% 26.6, A/TO 69/49
Dangerfield - MPG 24.4, PPG 6.1, RPG 2.2, APG 3.7, FG%  40.3, 3PT% 31.7, A/TO 114/53

I'd have to give Dangerfield the advantage but it's really close.

How about their sophomore season? I'm too lazy to look at the first 8 games of the season for Jefferson, so I'll just compare the numbers for her entire season (39 games) to Dangerfield's season to date (8 games).

Jefferson -  MPG 29.8, PPG 10.0, RPG 3.4, APG 4.9, FG%  57.5, 3PT% 41.8, A/TO 195/66
Dangerfield - MPG 33.2, PPG 14.3, RPG 2.6, APG 5.6, FG%  49.4, 3PT% 53.5, A/TO 45/14

Both players made HUGE jumps in performance from freshman to sophomore season. And if Dangerfield continues like this, her 2nd year will be better than Jefferson's 2nd season. Time will tell, but UConn is so lucky to have another great PG on the team.

Not a good night for he AAC as No. 17 South Florida lost to struggling Oklahoma 79-74. The other Gabby, Ortiz, had 8 three pointers and a career high 31 points to lead the Sooners to victory.

UConn plays Oklahoma next, on December 19th at home. It's another off TV game being broadcast on CBS Sports. Hope you have that on your cable system!

UConn pounded DePaul 103-69 and taught the Blue Demons a lesson in three-point shooting. It is not how many 3's you take, it is how many go in..!  :D Crystal Dangerfield calmly swished 6 of 7 threes from loooong range to show DePaul what 85% accuracy from the arc looks like.  8-) Katie Lou and Kia added 5 more threes to help the Huskies win Geno his 999th victory.

Here are the stats that matter:
1. Crystal finished with 18 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds, a steal and only 2 turnovers. She is now 23-43 shooting threes or 53.5%..!! ;)
2. UConn had 34 assists on 41 baskets, a season-high for dimes. The Blue Demons had 13 assists.
3. DePaul outshot the Huskies 76 to 69, but missed an incredible 53 attempts.
4. Not surprisingly, UConn had a season-high 53 rebounds, led by Gabby, Pheesa and Z with 10, 10 and 9.
5. Katie Lou started the game 1-6 with 2 points. She finished by making the next 7 of 10 shots for a total of 20 points.
6. DePaul had 10 players try a total of 43 three-point attempts. Only 12 went in for 28% accuracy. :o
7. UConn's starters hung 61 points on DePaul in the first half, and held the diminutive demons to 13 points in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half.
8. Pheesa went 8-11 (73%) from the field and Azura made 7-8 (88%) from inside the 3 pt arc. DePaul had no answer for UConn's inside game.
9. Geno now has 999 wins and goes for a grand on Tuesday, December 19th.
10. Gabby and Napheesa each had a double-double with 10 rebounds..! (rofl)

Here are some stats that don't matter:
1. In the last 3:39 of the game, DePaul scored 18 points, mostly by their starters, against the bench.
2. UConn had 24 turnovers, including 7 in the last 3:39 of the game, against a full court press.

The Huskies are 8-0 and deserving of their 10 day rest period during final exams. (Maybe "rest" is the wrong word.) They have the weekend off and CD promised practices this week will be short and sweet. Yes, short and sweet, just like #5... 8-)

Go Huskies..!!

  1. Comparing players is difficult due to the fact the performance of other players will influence opportunities. Also, the quality of teams played may be different. Let us just enjoy each players performance as it is today.
