So happy for Saylor. She quickly found a home to play basketball. I believe UConn is ranked the 63rd college and Arkansas is around 170, so I'm not sure where education fell in her decision. I believe her mother spoke out of turn earlier complaining about Saylors issue with her classes. Arkanas will be more challenging? Doubtful. But that is history now.
I'm sure Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors will get the best out of her. He is a hell of a coach and Saylor will get plenty of looks from deep, her specialty!
With the Arkansas roster, the announcer will have fun with - "Wolfenbarger to Poffenbarger for two"!!!

I want to thank No. 18 South Florida for making me look dumber and dumber with my UConn by 40+ win over the Bulls last week. They beat No. 15 Oregon by 9 and now they beat No. 7 Stanford 57-54. Sydni Harvey hit the game-winning shot when Jose drew up the final play in a timeout. The junior guard hit a 3-pointer from the wing with 2.8 seconds left. USF was lead by the defensive and rebounding effort from Betty Mununga. She dominated the boards with 23 rebounds and 8 of those were offensive. She added 4 assists and had 2 assists. Stanford is just not the same team this year. They fell to 4-2 for the season. When I saw the final stats I noticed that two starters only played 5 minutes each, Ashten Prichtel and Anna Wilson. I'm not sure why but they were both scoreless. Then I saw the stats for POY candidate Haley Jones and noticed she was scoreless as well. Hmm...limited minutes? Nope? 31 minutes. She was 0-6 from the field and 0-1 on threes. Must have been a terrific defensive effort from USF to hold her down like that. Stanford might drop out of the top 10 and South Florida could slide into the top 15.
Unranked Kent State stayed undefeated after beating No. 19 UCLA and giving the Bruins their first loss of the season, 75-69. Kent State would have blown them out if they hit more foul shots. They were 16-30 from the line. But it was nice to see two teams that valued the ball. They only had 16 turnovers between both teams. The jury is still out on UCLA and they will slip to the bottom of the Top 25 rankings next week.
No. 24 Virginia Tech lost their first game of the season to unranked Missouri State 76-68. The Lady Bears ran out to a 23-9 first quarter lead and then held on in the fourth quarter for the 8 point win. MSU had four starters in double digit scoring. The difference in this game was at the foul line. The Hokies committed 24 fouls leading to Missouri State hitting 27 of 30 foul shots.
In other non-upset games, just a few comments -
No. 1 South Carolina doubled up an overmatched Elon 78-39. The Gamecocks blocked 13 shots and held them to 28% shooting and 5-19 on threes. If it wasn't for the 1-1 from the foul line, the Phoenix might been in the mix for an UGGY. They only got to the foul line that one time and SC only committed 9 fouls. That's not easy to do no matter the opponent.
No. 9 Arizona had their hands full against the Big East's Depaul winning 75-68 after being tied through the third quarter. Freshman Aneesha Morrow had a great game for DePaul scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She has a great college career ahead of her.
No. 11 Tennessee had it's hands full with unranked Kansas winning 68-58 in a tough fought game. I have to give Tennessee, no matter how bad they shoot, they find a way to win. In this game they were 33% from the field, 4-18 on threes and 12-22 on free throws. Kansas forgot how to score so it ended up a double digit win for the Lady Vols. Wouldn't it be great if they were undefeated when they played UConn? They would be 22-0 and maybe top 5? Well, they do play 4 ranked teams including Stanford, so that might not happen. Ya can't keep shooting that badly and keep winning. Someday someone will get hot and score over enough points against Tennessee to beat them.
One more thing on the Tennessee game. I linked an article to the final score in the Top 25 sections. In that article, the author wrote "The Lady Vols were 44% from 3-point range, though, thanks to Tess Darby, who had 11 points.". It's really not hard to read a box score. Tennessee was 22% from threes. They hit only 4 and Darby hit three of them. That means Tennessee was 1-12 without Darby. Just a little fact checking.
Tennessee isn't the only offensively challenged team in the Top 25. No. 23 Texas A&M was taking on South Dakota State and was losing 31-20 at the half.
And on edit, Texas A&M scored 24 points in the third quarter to redeem themselves. Unfortunately South Dakota State only scored 2 points.

With the terrible South Carolina game in the rear view mirror, one final stat discussion is in order. Then, that game becomes history, never to be brought up again.
The first 3/4ths of the game was not the problem. It was the final 10 minutes that sunk the Huskies. How bad was the 4th quarter?
Consider:
1. UConn missed 9 or 10 shots.
2. The Huskies turned over the ball 6 times.
3. Of the nine misses, Paige missed all 5 of her shots.
4. UConn had more fouls (3) than baskets (1).
5. The 3 points scored by the Huskies in the 4th quarter is the lowest on record.
Watch the tape, learn some valuable lessons, then burn it. Come March, this game will not matter.
Go Huskies..!!
