Well, my plans to work on the DePaul Pregame Report didn't work out. I mean, look at these two.

They did nap in the afternoon but as you might have guessed, so did I.!! Maybe tomorrow when I only have to watch the baby. Maybe.

** ok.....baby took a good nap Tuesday afternoon, so here is my UConn/DePaul Pregame Report.

It's a slow couple of days in WCBB. Only two top 25 games Monday and none on Tuesday. So there won't be many links until Wednesday. Thank goodness for David, who sent me two "numbers" for this blog. Otherwise you wouldn't be getting your money's worth.

No. 5 Louisville is playing Monday night against Miami (Ohio) and they are off to a fast start leading 27-12 after one quarter before settling for a 46-28 half time lead. Unfortunately the Cardinals lost a solid part of their rotation to an ACL tear in practice on Monday. Grad transfer guard Yacine Diop is out for the season with a torn ACL. She averaged 8.3 PPG and 5.7 RPG in first three UL games this season. Fortunately they have a pretty deep roster and should be able to absorb the loss of Diop. No. 10 Texas is not so fortunate. They lost 6'7" freshman Sedona Prince to a broken leg this summer and Joyner Holmes to an ankle injury where she had recent surgery to put her out for probably the season. But the big blow is leading scorer this season, Lashann Higgs, has a possible ACL injury and could be lost for the season. Devastating news for the Longhorns.

By David in Naples!!!!!

Part I

Five games into the 2018-19 season, many UConn stat's are what you would expect and others are a pleasant surprise. First, the expected statistics:
1. Katie Lou leads the team in sscoring with 97 points in five games. (19.4% average)
2. Napheesa is the leading rebounder with 49 boards for an average of 9.8 per game.
3. Crystal has a team best 25 assists, with several highlight dimes.
4. The Huskies are averaging 81.2 points per game.
5. Average margin of victory is 33.2 points with only the St. Johns' game being close at 10 points.

Now the pleasant surprises:
1. Christyn Williams is shooting 50% from three range at 8-16.  So is Crystal at 12-24..!!
2. Megan Walker is averaging 11.2 pts per game and 5.6 rebounds.
3. Katie Lou has turned into the rebounding Samuelson with 29 rebounds in five games. 8-)
4. UConn is averaging 18.4 assists per game and has made 41 threes. (41-103)
5. The defense has created 77 turnovers and held opponents to 30% shooting overall.

Two great tests coming up this week with Wednesday's game in Hartford with DePaul and Sunday's #1 vs #2 at Notre Dame.

Go Huskies..!!
Part II

Not surprisingly, UConn is undefeated after 5 games and the Paradise Jam tournament Championship in the Virgin Islands. Some statistics, however, are not what fans expected. Consider:
1. UConn has two players making 50% of their three-point shots and neither is named Katie Lou.
(Crystal & Christyn)

2. The player with the most minutes played is freshman Christyn Williams at 161 minutes or 32.2 per game.

3. Napheesa is averaging a double-double w/ 17.2 pts & 10 rebounds per game. (Ok, I rounded up from 9.8...)

4. UConn's defense is giving up only 48 points per game & scoring 81.

5. Pheesa only has 7 fouls in 5 games. She also has 16 assists as much of the offense is running through her. ;)

6. Opponents are making only 54.7% of their tries from the charity stripe. Good free throw defense...:D

7. The Huskies have only 8 blocked shots in 5 games.

8. The substitute with the most minutes in Mikayla Coombs with 58. (Olivia is 2nd with 55.)

9. The player with the most steals is Christyn with 7.

10. All five starters are averaging double figures in scoring. (Lou is highest at 19.4 and Christyn is 5th with 10.0 per game)

Next game is Wednesday against DePaul in Hartford.

Go Huskies..!!
