I had a great day today with my grandson Barrett. He is such a cutie. We shopped at Target and cuddled.

And it was bowling night. I've been very streaky, like some three point shooters. Tonight I had a 224, 140, 181.

It was December birthday night at our league. Great cake and great guys!!!

The coaches poll came out Tuesday and there were some interesting changed.

South Carolina is out of the top 25.  This team has really fallen apart this season. Was A'ja Wilson that important?

It's interesting that No. 12 Texas didn't drop after losing to No. 9 Tennessee. Do they think the Lady Vols are so good the Longhorns deserved to stay where they were? Gee, maybe Texas should have moved up a couple of spots. After all, they kept it close!

In a big surprise, California didn't move. You'd think they would have flip flopped with Texas at 12 and 13. Maybe the coaches realize what a paper tiger the Bears are.

Ok, I get that Michigan State had a big win against Oregon. But gee, they were at home against a very good but not great team. So, they jump eighteen spots, from 40 to 22. EIGHTEEN. I enjoyed how well Michigan State played and I loved the emotion they had. I hope they continue the good play. But I'm not convinced they deserved that big a jump.

My favorite punching bag conference, the SEC, has only 4 teams in this latest poll. No. 4 Mississippi State, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 20 Kentucky and No. 23 Missouri. Yet, I'm sure the latest bracketology would have 7 or 8 of them in the tournament.

By David in Naples!!!!!

Free throw shooting for the Huskies this season has been a bit strange. Overall, the team is shooting 72.7% versus 77% last year and 78% in 2016-17. In 154 tries, UConn has made 112 and missed 42. Strangely, 15 of those misses belong to Napheesa, who is making just 63.4% of her free throw attempts. Given a larger sample, Pheesa will probably bring the % up to her normal 78%-80%.

Despite starting 2 games and playing 114 minutes, Kyla Irwin has not taken any free throws. She and Molly are the only two Huskies without a try from the charity stripe. The other player not visiting the free throw line very often is Megan Walker. She is 5-6 (83.3%). That is a great %, but 6 attempts in 208 minutes is not very good. Last year, Megan had 49 tries in 495 minutes. Crystal is the best free throw shooter for accuracy at 92.9% (13-14). Pheesa has the most attempts at 41 and Katie Lou has 33. Of course, Lou is making more at a 84.8% clip.

The 154 free throw shots in 9 games comes out to 17.1 attempts per game. That actually compare favorably to last season when the Huskies tried 554 free throws in 37 games or 14.9 per game. Now they just need to make more of those tries..!!

Go Huskies..!!

  1. So, David, just curious, what is your suggestion to Megan for her to improve her free throw ATTEMPTS?
