Doggy's Doghouse 12/24/18 - A Merry Christmas Poem

From DoggyDaddy and his Family

'Twas the night before Christmas
Watching UConn on the court
DoggyDaddy was working hard
On his Post Game Report

The fans are all waiting
To read his thoughts on the game
But it's not all that easy
He is going insane

He reads all the comments
From fans far and wide
The panic is palpable
They think UConn will slide

"They play too many minutes"
"The bench is too short"
Doggy's doing his best
To have a good retort

"The starters are awesome,
They don't need any help"
Said the Doggy to all
Said with a big welp!

"It's all about faith
In Geno we Trust"
Doggy said to the fans
Being positive is a must
With Baylor up next
All are now in a tizzy
"Their size is too much
Looking up makes UConn dizzy"

"Foul trouble will come
And god forbid they get hurt"
Said the fans with a sigh
"We are doomed" they would blurt

But Doggy feels good
About their chances of winning
With the AAC schedule
Opponents heads will be spinning

Lots of time to refine
The role of the bench
Before the tournament starts
And they're in the home stretch

So in a message to fans
Who seem so uptight
Merry Christmas to all
And to UConn fans a good night

Much has been made of two consecutive games where an opposing player made 6 three-point baskets and 16 total 3's were good. Now fair weather fans are up in arms about the 3 point defense needing work. Slow down and soak in the facts:

1. Against Oklahoma, Taylor Roberson went 6-12 from three point range. She started out 4-7, but only had 2 baskets in the 2nd half.
2. No other Oklahoma player made a three-point basket. They were 0-10.
3. At California, Asha Thomas started out 3-4 from long range and then went 2-9. She came back to normal.
4. Opponents took 52 threes in those two games. They made 16 or 30%.
5. In the Cal game, they started out 5-7 from three range. Then they went 5-23 or 21%.

In both games, good 3 point shooters started out hot, in front of a fired up home crowd. UConn played their usual game and the opponent came back to earth. Also in both games the defense adjusted to limit 2nd half baskets by the same players. The offense, while not bad, scored 72 and 76 points. Not the normal output and the games looked closer than normal.

Go Huskies..!!
