Doggy's Doghouse 12/12/18

I want to thank one of my faithful readers, Michael Ng, for pointing out that the stats I posted from last years team compared to this years team after nine games needed a little context.

Last year's team played a much better schedule for those 9 games. They opened the season playing No. 10 Stanford winning 78-53, No. 20 California winning 82-47, No. 15 Maryland beating them 97-72, and No. 5 UCLA beating them 78-60. They then played No. 3 Notre Dame after two games later winning 80-71.

This year's team has played only two ranked teams in building up their stats.

Well, I told you I would look for things to write about. It's my version of alternative facts!!!

No. 3 Baylor played another powerhouse in their out of conference schedule beating up on Morehead State 96-58. I gave Maryland a hard time about their OOC schedule so it's only fair that I give Baylor and Mulkey some shit as well.

First, I'll give Baylor credit for playing a few good teams. They beat at the time No. 23 Arizona State 65-59, the top Mid-Major, South Dakota State beating them 72-66 and at the time No. 18 South Carolina 94-69. That Gamecock win looks less impressive as time goes on. And going forward they will play No. 11 Stanford and No. 1 UConn.

However, the other teams they have faced and will face before conference play is downright embarrassing.

They beat Nicholls 100-39, Saint Francis (PA) 116-58, Southern 94-49, Georgetown 67-46 and finally Wednesday night's Morehead State game. And they finish this cacophony of cupcakes with a game against UT Rio Grande Valley.

Six  "exhibition" games. The fans deserve better.

No. 7 Oregon bounced back from their loss to unranked Michigan State to beat a tough team in No. 2 mid-major South Dakota State 87-79. Or did they??

Yes, they won the game and it was on the road, but two players in Sabally with 27 points and Ionescu with 26 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists carried the load. The rest of the team? Meh. It looks like Notre Dame transfer is really struggling, going 1-9 from the field and 1-6 on threes.

Oregon will be playing No. 5 Mississippi State at home on Tuesday at 10:00 on ESPN2. I'll be watching that one after bowling that night. Should be a great game and we will learn even more about both teams.

Katie Lou Samuelson is currently #12 in UConn's all-time scoring with 1,893 points. She is 97 points behind Renee Montgomery (#11) and 101 points behind Bria Hartley (#10). With her current average of 20.1 pts per game, she should pass both by the USF or Tulane game. Passing Bria would put Lou in the top 10. Rebecca Lobo is in 9th place with 2,133 points. That is 244 points away. But, should she reach Lobo, 4th and 5th place are only 45 more points away. (Nekeysha Sales and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis are tied at 2,178). Very reachable...

Napheesa Collier is currently in 15th place with 1,775 points. Tiff Hayes and 14th place are only 26 points away. After that, Svetlana would be next at 1,865 points. Unfortunately for Renee, Bria and Rebecca, Pheesa could pass them by the end of the AAC part of UConn's schedule. Having two classmates in the top 6 in scoring all-time would be very, very impressive.

Go Huskies..!!
