Happy Seventh Day of Hanukkah!!!

I've been rooting for UConn for a long time. I have several connections to the school. My brother graduated from there, my sister graduated from there, my daughter got her masters there. I have many friends who graduated from there and I've lived in Connecticut for the last 51 years.

I've gone to countless games, both men and women's basketball, several football games (don't laugh) and even a soccer game or two. I also cheer loud! UCONN!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!

Now, I have to admit, it's an entirely different feeling when you are watching a school you attended play a championship game. And that happened today.

I went with my good friend George to watch my Bloomfield Warhawks go for a state championship against Haddam-Killingworth in New Britain. I can honestly say I haven't been to a Bloomfield HS sporting event in forever but when George called me Friday and asked if I want to go I jumped on that chance.

The game was fantastic with my beloved Warhawks beating up on HK 25-7. What an awesome experience to yell GO BLOOMFIELD, GO WARHAWKS!!! I only yelled GO HUSKIES twice. Hey, old habits are hard to break!!!!

UConn beat Seton Hall Saturday 99-61. It was a great game by UConn sans the bad third quarter where they only scored 14 points.

Katie Lou had 26 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists to lead UConn. In 12 foul-filled minutes, ODO had a terrific game with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocks. She is looking better and better if she can figure out her foul issues, she should be a big contributors.

I'll try to put together post game report. I'll have plenty of time before the next game against Oklahoma on 12/19.

I just LOVE this kid!!! Just a freshman? We are so lucky!!!

Husky nation has pretty much lost it's collective mind over the 2019 recruiting class and how poorly they did in only getting No. 33 Aubrey Griffin. I get it. It would have been nice of Boston and/or Jones had decided on the Huskies.

What frosts my butt is that the old "AAC Conference is going to kill recruiting" crap is surfacing again. So, just a reminder, here are UConn's top players in the recruiting classes since joining the AAC. I left out 2013 as the announcement was after that class was put together. I think that was the one player Chong class.

2014 - No. 14 Gabby Williams, Top international player Kia Nurse
2015 - No. 1 Katie Lou Samuelson, No. 6 Napheesa Collier
2016 - No. 3 Crystal Dangerfield
2017 - No. 1 Megan Walker, #13 Mlikayla Coombs
2018 - No. 1 Christyn Williams, No. 5 Olivia Nelson-Ododa

As you can see, UConn had 3 No. 1's. And several other top 10 players along with Gabby Williams, who ended up maybe the best player in her class.

There are a ton of really really good players in the 2020 class. I would bet anything that UConn gets 3-4 of the top 20.

If you just keep winning you will rise in the polls. It doesn't matter the scores. Win and you move up. The perfect example of that is California. They are now No. 13 and their record is 8-0. They started the season at No. 24 and week after week, they moved up.

24-23-18-15-13.

Teams around them have lost they must have beaten some really good teams. Right?

Well, they beat BYU (RPI 103) and Pacific (RPI 63) and rose 5 places.
Then they beat Tulane (RPI 20) and San Diego (RPI 126) and rose 3 places.
Finally they beat CSU Northridge (RPI 127) and rose 2 more places.

Hmmmm….is that an AAC team with the best RPI that they have played?

Anyway, in their game today they beat St. Mary's (RPI 43) in overtime. Then they play UC Santa Barbara (303) in their final game before UConn. That's two more polls before that game. They could be in the top ten with a record of 9-0 before they play UConn at home on December 22nd after exams.

Reality will be a bitch that day for the California Bears.

Two good games Sunday.

No. 9 Tennessee visits No. 12 Texas in their yearly matchup. Last year, the Lady Vols beat the Longhorns 82-75 in a pretty exciting game. Tennessee was led by Mercedes Russel and Jamie Nared who both had double double. This was a game that was Texas to win. Their starting senior guard McCarthy had a horrible game going 2-15 from the field and 0-6 on threes. Interestingly, both teams have lost the majority of their points and rebounds in that game to graduation, transfer or injury.

Tennessee lost 46 of 82 points and 26 of 51 rebounds.
Texas lost 44 of 75 points and 21 of 47 rebounds.

It should be a good one.

In a battle for the Blue State, No. 19 Kentucky takes their perfect record to No. 5 Louisville. Kentucky has been a minor surprise this season as they started outside of the top 25. But with wins against South Florida and UCLA, they were able to crack the rankings. Louisville has been terrific but their only good win was against Arizona State and that was only by 2 points.

ACC vs SEC. I'll go with Louisville at home.

By David in Naples!!!!!

Critical fans of UConn, and there are plenty, will have lots to bitch about after the Seton Hall game. For example, Olivia fouled out again & Katie Lou missed 8 three pointers. The Huskies are doomed..!!

It won’t stop there. Pheesa only shot 66% from the free throw line, UConn only outscored the Hall by 6 pts in the 2nd half and Irwin started but took only 3 shots..!! Seriously, so what..?? The Huskies won by 38 points and Seton Hall is a fairly good team. Did you watch the 1st period? Did you sleep through the first half?

UConn crushed the Pirates by 22 in the first 10 minutes & were up 32 at the half. You want to leave the starters in and win by 88? The first half stats are eye opening. UConn shot 56% from the field, had 16 assists and just 3 turnovers. The Huskies had twice the steals (6) as fouls (3). The game was over..!!

There is no justification to criticize a team that scored 99 points, had 5 players in double figures in points, totaled 25 assists, created 17 turnovers and humiliated a team with only 1 previous loss. Just hush..!!

Go Huskies..!!
