Well, we have a long gap before UConn plays it's next game on 12/19 against struggling Oklahoma starting a 4 game road trip that continues with No. 13 California, No. 4 (soon to be No. 3) Baylor before ending against an improved Houston for UConn's first conference game of the season.

I'll do my best to blog every day, but things are so slow during this timeframe I'm not sure I will have anything to post about. Heck, that hasn't stopped me before...lol.

There were a few good games Sunday and one big upset. My thoughts -

Well, I did watch most of the Tennessee/Texas game hoping for a Lady Vol loss. No such luck. Tennessee was able to hold on to beat Texas 88-82 in a game that was not the best example of good basketball for WCBB. The game was pretty sloppy with 32 turnovers between them And the constant fouling took any flow out of the game. But there was some terrific shooting by both teams. Meme Jackson shrugged off some early game poor shooting to finish hot and score a career high 33 points. And their point guard, Evina Westbrook, scored 23 points and had a team high 6 assists. Texas just didn't have enough to stay with Tennessee. The Lady Vols take on ranked Stanford next and with a win there they could be knocking on the top 5 before too long.

In another game that ended 88-82, unranked Michigan State toppled No. 3 Oregon. This was a fun game to watch. Michigan State should jump into the top 25 after this signature win. They have some really nice players on this team. Jenna Allen, their center, showed off her complete game by scoring 27 points on 11-14 shooting and going 3-4 on three, including a huge three pointer to put the game away. Michigan State shot 57% from both the field and the 3 point line. And they had 24 assists on their 34 baskets. Player of the year candidate Sabrina Ionescu was outstanding once again with 29 points, hitting several clutch threes for Oregon. Erin Boley brought her three point shot with her from Notre Dame and was 6-12 from long distance. It was a fun but sloppy game and a huge win for Michigan State.

In another game between two ranked teams, in the battle of the Blue Grass State, No. 5 Louisville was able to handle previously unbeaten No. 19 Kentucky 80-75.  Asia Durr led the Cardinals with 32 points on 25 shots. No other Louisville player had more than 9 shots. Durr just dominates her team's offense. Louisville let Kentucky back into the game with some really poor foul shooting. They ended up going 15-28 from the free throw line. Louisville is pretty much one dimensional. UConn eats teams like that for breakfast.

By David in Naples!!!!!

The UConn offense is in high gear over the last 4 games. The Huskies have scored 99, 89, 98 and 99 against DePaul, ND, St Louis and Seton Hall. This scoring run is even more impressive when you consider a regular starter (Megan) has been out the last 2 games. For the season, the offense is averaging 87.9 points per game.

For the season, the Huskies are shooting 52% from the field. Three point shots have been going in at 41%, while tries from the charity stripe come in at 73%. Opponents are shooting far worse at 32% from the field, just 25% from three range and a pathetic 58% on free throws. The disparity in accuracy explains why UConn averages 35 points more per game than the bad guys.

The Huskies score the most in the 1st period with 232 points. That is more than 25 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. Opponents have managed only 112 points in those ten minutes making the average lead 13 points. It only gets worse from there, with UConn outscoring opponents by 80 in the 2nd period, 62 in the third and 62 in the 4th.

Next up is Oklahoma on December 19th.

Go Huskies..!!
