Doggy's Doghouse 2/12/2021

Ok, so my 14 year old granddaughter Noa is going out on her first date.

I told her I was coming to Florida and making sure this guy was ok.

She giggled.

Sigh......I'm getting old!!!!

I really hope everyone had a chance to hear Geno's post game comments right after the game. I know fans, and for sure the fans are not happy with a 24 point win. They are not happy with the slow start. And I'm sure there are individual performances that will get picked apart.

But Geno put everything in perspective and I'll go with his take over the emotional fan base.

He was very pleased with his team's performance. He admitted it was a slow start. We all saw that. But he said "it took us a little while like it normally does to get our offense functioning but once we got it....".

Then he lamented about the Covid impacted season.

"It's not been an easy stretch, for any length of time right now and....all these young guys, it's all catching up to them, we need a couple of days off". "I thought our defense got better and better and better....we did a lot of really good things and like I said this season is about getting the next one and move on".

This season is about getting the next one and move on.

It's a sentence we should all be repeating over and over. Especially before posting some lame complaint about how the team played.

So, on to the game.

Paige was outstanding again, although I did hold my breath when she took that tumble. She had 19 points, going 3-5 on threes. Most impressive was her 9 assists and only 1 turnover. Geno said he HAS to find games where he can play her less minutes. But right now he doesn't feel he can do that.

Christyn!!! Not the most efficient game, but I'll take the 19 points and 7 rebounds, and she hit 3 threes although her percentage was not great. Good for her. Something to build on.

The defense, as Geno said, was just outstanding. They held Georgetown to 40 points. The Hoyas shot only 31.3% from the field, 25% on threes and the Huskies forced them into 21 turnovers.

Geno had an interesting take on the rest of the season.

"I don't think anybody is going into the NCAA Tournament feeling like wow we got everything covered. I think the NCAA tournament is going to be about who plays well that night. The BE tournament too. So we have until March 1st......this is the first of 5 straight road games for us.....we try to get one game at a time....get to the finish line and then regroup."

Stats - part 1.

The latest Coaches poll has UConn #1, followed by L'ville, South Carolina, Stanford, Texas A&M, NC State and UCLA. So when was the last time each of these programs won the NCAA Championship for women's basketball?

UConn = 2016
Louisville = never
South Carolina = 2017
Stanford = 1992
Texas A&M = 2011
NC State = never
UCLA = never

That's a lot of "never" mixed in with some "long time ago."  8-)

Part II

Imagine if you are Georgetown playing on CBS against the best team in the country. In the 1st quarter, you hold UConn to 4 baskets, create 7 turnovers and make 40% of your 3 point attempts. The score? You are losing 13-12.

Georgetown never had a chance. UConn’s defense smothered the Hoyas and held them to 16 points in the 2nd and 3rd periods. The offense finally got untracked and scored 34. The only doubt was the final score. Stats of interest:

1. Christyn remembered how to shoot and went 8-19 for 19 points. Good for her..!
2. Paige had an easy 19 with 9 assists as well.
3. Christyn also tied for the lead with 7 rebounds.
4. Nika had 6 assists and created several turnovers.
5. G’town had 21 turnovers, only 15 baskets and missed 33 shots.

Much needed rest ahead. Next game not until Wednesday.

Go Huskies..!

No. 10 Arizona vs Washington State - Late Game

No. 25 Missouri State at Illinois StateThe last time the Lady Bears played at Illinois State, they were the No. 17 team in the country and they suffered a double-digit loss. This time. No. 23 Missouri State dominated Illinois State in a 69-52 victory Friday evening. Missouri State took control from the very start in a first quarter that saw it lead by 15 in the end. A 12-0 run that featured 3-pointers from Brice Calip and Sydney Manning. Tough defense limited Illinois State to just one made shot from the field in the final 6:12 of the opening quarter. Illinois State brought the game back within eight before the Lady Bears went on a 9-2 run to end the first half with a 37-22 lead. The Lady Bears caught fire to start the fourth quarter scoring 10 of the first 12 points in the first four minutes. Illinois State never brought the game closer than 15 for the remainder of the evening. Franklin led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Abi Jackson scored 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting with Abby Hipp scoring nine points and grabbing nine boards. Missouri State finished with a 34-18 advantage on points in the paint and a 38-30 rebounding-advantage. Mary Crompton led Illinois State with 16 points and her four 3-pointers. Juliunn Redmond scored 14 points and hit the Redbirds' other 3 as the team finished 5-of-15 from beyond the arc.

Oscar Wilde

Sometimes that expression is so true. I'm going to share a story with you and it's part personal and part UConn related. I usually ignore things like this, but for some reason, it really annoyed me.

First some history.

As you all know, I post my blog every day in a few places on the Web. One is my favorite UConn message board, UConn Territory. Great site to discuss UConn women's basketball. I also post on several Face Book pages. UConn Friends, where I am now a moderator, UConn Basketball Rocks!!! and UCONN WBB FANS FOREVER. All great fan pages on Facebook.

I was also posting on another one. UConn Huskies Bleed Blue. After a few posts (actually around 10-20), the moderator Lorraine Cox McIntyre, asked me not to post my daily blogs anymore. The blog contained links (you see them every day if you read me) and they post many of the same links on their page and don't want a duplicate situation. I really didn't get it but of course I politely said OK, no problem. I asked if I could still post my Pregame and Post game reports since they don't contain links and she was fine with that.

All Good.

Then....

Today I noticed on her Face Book page a link to a UConn story in the Hartford Courant. She also had some verbiage from the story with the link. I figured it was a small paragraph as a lead in to the entire article. But when I clicked on "more....." to my surprise it was what looked like the entire story.

I know from past experience that is a real No No. It's not OK as it's a copyright infringement. Here is a LINK to the law.

From that article - "The links can contain a title, and often a brief description is fine.  But you cannot post the articles on your site.  This is a violation of copyright law, and you would be infringing on the copyright owners’ intellectual property.   Do people post articles from other people’s websites on their own sites?   Yes, but they are opening themselves up to legal action.'

So, I wrote a private message to Loraine explaining my thoughts.

Me - "Lorraine, I've noticed you have been post full copies of the articles for the Courant along with the link. I'm pretty sure because the Courant is a pay site, they would prefer (or be pissed off) that you are posting the article in it's entirety. Just a heads up."

Me - "This is from what I found - "You can place links on your site to public articles on other websites. The links can contain a title, and often a brief description is fine. But you cannot post the articles on your site. This is a violation of copyright law, and you would be infringing on the copyright owners' intellectual property"."

Pretty innocuous right? Her response was surprising.

Her - "Actually I do not post full articles from the Courant. Nor do I post the links. And I am always certain to attribute any author I do quote or cite any photographer used, especially given that my daughter is a professional photographer and I used to be as well. You would be amazed how much I actually paraphrase and/or reword. I wondered how long it would take before your ego became disgruntled. Not long I see."

Huh??? What the heck did I say that deserved that response? Let me say that my memory was it was a linked article. If not, it's even a worse situation. You can't just cut and paste an entire article. And her comment that she paraphrased and reworded seemed wrong to me. So I went back to that Face Book page and tried to compare what she posted to the actual article to see.

Guess what. I was locked out of her page. When I tried to respond to her to explain it wasn't ego, I was trying to help and this might be a misunderstanding, my reply came back in error. She blocked me from her personal page too.

I'm still shaking my head over this. Seems so petty with all the craziness going on in this world.

Oh well, at least I have all of you as friends. Right? RIGHT???????????
