I'm not sure I have ever been more proud of a UConn team. They overcame deficits late in the fourth quarter and the overtime to beat No. 1 (for now) South Carolina 63-59.

Let me first give a little bit of advise to all the UConn fans that read my blog. Just enjoy the game. Don't look to take apart players who didn't perform like you would like. Don't worry about anything about this game. It was just a slug-fest between two really tough teams. And UConn came out on top. That's it.

I guess we can officially say "we have Paige and you don't" to all the other teams. A freshman? Are you kidding me? Can you tell I'm a little excited?? It's really hard to believe how it played out.

In the overtime, down 59-56 with 1:48 left in the OT, Bueckers drives down the left side and hits a really tough and well defender 10 foot jumper to pull UConn to within one point at 59-58. Boston then took an ill-advised three pointer (really?) and UConn grabbed the defensive rebound. With 50 seconds left, Paige comes off a curl with out the ball, gets a pass from Nelson-Ododa and then Olivia sets a great screen and Paige hits a foul line jumper for the lead. WOW!!  South Carolina Henderson dribbles the length of the court and loses it out of bounds when Williams stuck her hand in and knocked the ball off Henderson's knee. Great play by Williams.

Ok...so...UConn ball with 41 second remaining. And with 11 seconds left and no time on the shot clock Bueckers lets a contested three pointer fly. What happens next was almost like a movie where the game slow motion. The ball hits the back of the rim, bounces straight up around so high it left the TV screen and comes straight down through the next for a 63-57 lead. South Carolina missed a couple of threes, Olivia grabbed the rebound the clock ran out and guess what.....UConn is the new No. 1 team in the country.

I'm exhausted. Not sure how much I will add to this blog.

Ok,  I have to add another play.

Question - Paige, do you ever surprise yourself?
Paige - Yeah, I was 1-6 on threes? (Giggles)

That was one ugly, wonderful, nail biting, lousy shooting, great heart, hang in there, gutsy win for UConn..!!

Crazy, crazy stats..!
1. 0 free throws until mid way in the 3rd period.
2. The Huskies get only 9 points on the 4th period, but then get 9 more in overtime.
3. Three players with 4 fouls, nobody fouls out.
4. Paige with 14 baskets, the rest of the team with 15 total.
5. Three (3) total threes by both teams and 2 of them were miracle shots. Combined 3-23 from deep.
6. South Carolina has no one who can shoot threes...Boston took 3 of 8 and missed all of them.
7. Evina not herself tonight. 0 points, 1 rebound, 2 turnovers.
8. South Carolina missed 42 shots, had 22 turnovers, fouled 15 times and had only 7 assists.
9 & 10. Paige is really, really, really good. 31 points, 6 steals, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and the most clutch shooting in a game in the last decade. Paige scored the last 4 points for UConn in the 4th period and all 9 in overtime. And 17 of UConn's last 22 points in the game.

DD here - One more thing - She is the first player in UConn history with three straight 30 point games. Incredible.

Go Huskies..!!
