Well, the new AP poll is out and, no surprise, UConn is No. 1 again.

This is the 9th consecutive season that UConn has been No. 1 for at least one week. Crazy.

Even more crazy UConn has been No. 1 in the poll 246 times. That's a lot of weeks!

As usual, there are some head scratching votes. UConn beat South Carolina but 2 voters game them their first place votes. I guess they thought like Michelle Volpe did in an article she wrote that South Carolina should have won that game?

Texas A&M garnered one first place vote. Maybe Gary Blair's mother has a vote?

Stanford also grabbed a first place vote. Maybe it was the two losses? Interestingly enough, they actually still dropped a spot in the poll. Curious.

Tennessee took the biggest drop, from 16 to 21 after losing to Kentucky and Texas A&M. They were scheduled to play at Mississippi State on Tuesday but are stuck in Texas. Hopefully they get home for the gain against No. 2 South Carolina on Thursday and at No. 22 Georgia on Sunday. Two possible losses and a ride out of the Top 25. No makeup date yet for the MSST game.

Nice to see fellow Big East mate DePaul move up 3 spots to No. 19.  And former conference mate South Florida has moved to No. 12. Can't remember them higher than that. Good for Jose.

They revealed the Top 16 and Brackets at Halftime of the Stanford-Oregon game

Yes, UConn is the No. 1 overall seed. And headed straight to a rematch with Tennessee. And if they win that game they would play the winner of the Baylor-Arizona game to get to the Final Four.

It's always tough to beat a team twice, but I'm not sure Tennessee would even get that far.

Again, this is just the first reveal. Tennessee still has to play South Carolina, two tough SEC opponents in Mississippi State and Georgia. Then the SEC tournament. I could see 3-4 more loses for the Lady Vols. So, my guess is that 4 seed will not be there for Tennessee when all is said and done.

Both Charlie Creme and Rebecca Lobo were shocked that Baylor was only a 3 seed. I say hogwash! They lost to Arkansas and Iowa State, barely beat South Florida and other than West Virginia, the Big 12 stinks. Their OOC schedule sucked as well. No, a three seed is just about right.

It should be interesting to see what the next reveal looks like. But I like UConn's chances to maintain that No. 1 overall seed.

BIG EAST FOW and POW....Again

I know that some people think that Paige Bueckers gets too much press. She is everywhere in regards to WCBB.  I'm sure it really bothers fans of other teams. But she just keeps doing things that no one else has done.

Recently she scored 30 points in three consecutive games, a first for a UConn player in any class, let alone a freshman.

And now she is the first player in the Big East to win Freshman of the Week and Player of the Week in the same week in their history.

Sorry, WCBB, she has more to do. Get used to it.

No. 4 NC State vs Notre Dame - Postponed

**************************************************

By David in Naples

Some UConn fans seem to never be happy. Among their complaints, the team is too dependent on Paige Bueckers scoring, slow starts are killing UConn, Olivia and Christyn aren't playing like All Americans and Geno can't coach anymore. Let's examine each complaint.

1. Too much depends on Paige - Paige has scored 23.8% of UConn points. That means someone else has scored 76.2% of the Huskies points. She has taken 21.6% of the teams shots. Her 56.7% field goal accuracy rate is 3rd on the team to Olivia (59.5%) and Aaliyah (66.3%). Of course, those two shoot from much closer in. Paige is really good, but it is hard to say UConn is too dependent on her. In her senior year, Napheesa scored 25.1% of the team's points. Megan Walker had 25.0% her last season. The top scorer often gets 23%-25% of the team's points.

2. Slow starts - UConn scored 10 points to start the Seton Hall game and won by 21. They scored 13 in the 1st period against Georgetown and won by 24. They scored 10 against South Carolina and won. Against Arkansas, UConn scored 22 1st period points and lost. Scoring matters, but so does what the other team scores.

3.Liv & Christyn not AAs - Olivia and Christyn have had good games, and not so good games. But they are 2nd and 3rd in scoring for the Huskies at 15.3 per game & 12.7 per game. Olivia is the leading rebounder and shot blocker. Christyn is 3rd in assists and 3rd in made threes. Maybe not AA level, but not chopped liver either.

4. Geno can't coach any more - He is 16-1 and ranked #1 in the nation. And, this is with a team that has no seniors and 6 rookies. Just hush up...  8-)

Go Huskies..!!

No. 5 Stanford 63 No. 11 Oregon 61 - Details later.

No. 20 Kentucky 88 Florida 80Howard scored from everywhere on the floor to lead the 17th-ranked Wildcats to an 88-80 victory over Florida in Gainesville on Monday night. Howard erupted for 31 points on 12-for-20 shooting — including 4-for-7 from three-point range — and grabbed nine rebounds. She helped rescue the Wildcats after they nearly surrendered a big lead late. After building a 16-point advantage in the third quarter, the Wildcats got sloppy. A slew of UK turnovers helped Florida open the fourth on an 11-3 run to pull within 73-70. But following a timeout, Kentucky responded with a 12-3 run to pull away that included five points from Howard. Senior forward KeKe McKinney also came up big in the win. She scored 13 points and hit a crucial jumper late in the fourth to put the Cats up 10. UK’s new-look backcourt also put in work. Chasity Patterson had 13 points on 5-for-8 shooting. Jazmine Massengill nearly had a double-double with nine points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.

No. 22 DePaul 8 Seton Hall 76Dee Bekelja had 22 points and 10 rebounds, Sonya Morris added
20 points, six rebounds and five assists and No. 19 DePaul used a big third quarter to beat Seton Hall 82-76 on Monday night. DePaul led by 14 points in the fourth quarter but Seton Hall got within 78-74 after Lauren Park-Lane and Mya Jackson each made a 3-pointer, and Andra Espinoza-Hunter added a layup during an 8-0 run. Morris ended the run by making two free throws with 30.3 seconds left, following two offensive rebounds by the Blue Demons, and Lexi Held added two free throws on their next possession to seal it. Held finished with 17 points, reaching 1,000 career points for DePaul. Jorie Allen added 10 points. DePaul led 31-28 at halftime before scoring 30 points in the third quarter to take control. Morris scored 10 of her points in the quarter as the Blue Demons made 10 of 21 field goals and seven straight free throws. Park-Lane led Seton Hall with 24 points and Espinoza-Hunter had 17 points and 15 rebounds. Desiree Elmore added 13 points. Seton Hall struggled from the free-throw line, making 7 of 16.
