It was a great day in New Jersey with my family Friday. With a long almost 3 hour drive down and a shorter 2 1/2 hour drive home, it was a tiring day, so I don't know how much I will get done in this blog. Great food (I made 40 bagels) and great company!!!
My son and his family flew home from Newark after the party and I'm sad to see them go. It's so quiet here!!!
So, on the way home, my wife would give me periodic updates on the UConn game. It was certainly a surprising game!!!
I fell asleep typing this Friday night so I'm finishing Saturday morning!!!

Well, bottom line, UConn pulled it out with some really clutch play in the fourth quarter. UConn was down 51-47 at one point but outscored St. John's 18-8 to win by 10, 65-55.
Geno had to coach his ass off to get this result!!!
Looks like Katie Lou hit a few really clutch threes and both Walker and Dangerfield hit threes late to put the game away.
UConn had three starters play 40 minutes in Dangerfield, Samuelson and Williams and Collier had 39 minutes. The other starter, Walker played 30 minutes. Just a few minutes for the rest of the team. Yeah, I know, the bench, the bench, the bench.
Geno will do what he thinks is right to win the game they are playing and not worry about extended minutes. I think I posted about the bench play of all the other top teams. I guess this would be a good time to do that again.
Let's start at the top with No. 1 Notre Dame. They won their game against Drake 82-64. Much closer than anyone would have expected. How did the Notre Dame bench do? Well, they had four starters who scored 75 of their 82 points. Their actual bench scored 4 points (all one player) on 2-14 shooting. No, not a terribly good performance by their bench.
No. 4 Baylor had a tough time with unranked South Dakota State winning 72-66 behind Lauren Cox, who had 28 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. They had ONE bench player contribute with 22 minutes. That was about it.
No. 5 Louisville escaped with a win against No. 19 Arizona 58-56. Louisville only went 7 deep and one player had 11 points. The rest? 2 points.
No. 10 Texas squeaked by Quinnipiac 56-55. Yes a one point win over Quinnipiac for a top 10 team. Three bench players had double digit minutes. But they only scored 9 points between them.
No. 12 Iowa was able to get by No. 25 West Virginia 84-81. They played ONE bench player 10 minutes and she hit one three for Iowa for their 3 points.
There are certainly more example but I'm too tired to look at every box score!!!
Another SEC bash for you!!!
No. 21 Missouri lost Friday to unranked Michigan 70-54. The Tigers drop to 3-2 on the season. They scored only 7 points total in each of the first two quarters. Horrible. Strangely, the also didn't have anyone in double digit scoring. They are just not a top 25 teams at this point. Say goodbye to the polls !!!
No. 13 South Carolina lost to No. 9 Oregon State to drop to 3-2. You think they miss A'ja Wilson?
