Way back on December 19th UConn beat Xavier in Storrs 106-59. It was one of the few games that UConn jumped out to an early and big lead. When I say big, I mean BIG!! They were ahead 38-7 after the first 10 minutes. It was crazy! This was also one of Christyn Williams' best games. She scored 24 points and was 4-5 on threes. The bad in this game was the 19 turnovers by the Huskies including 6 by Paige Bueckers.

Anyway, here are some videos from that game. Enjoy.

So, what does all this tell you about tomorrow's game? Not much more to say in previewing this rematch. Xavier is an overmatched team but they are playing at home and could keep it closer for a longer period of time. Well, longer than 5 minutes it took for UConn to take a 19-0 lead...lol.

The UCONN BLOG had this about Xavier - Xavier has dealt with COVID issues for much of the season and has only played six Big East games thus far — the fewest in the conference. The Musketeers have taken the court just twice since Jan. 4 with their most recent action coming on Wednesday when they fell to DePaul, 83-75.

Her Hoop Stats has Xavier ranked 215th in the nation overall. The Musketeer's offense is middle of the pack at 66.9 points per game but their defense is dreadful, allowing opponents to score 73.6 points per game.

Nia Clark leads the team with 14.0 points per game while two other players average double-digit scoring as well. A’riana Gray and Kaelynn Satterfield are both tied for the team lead with 6.6 rebounds per game.

I would guess that it will be a little closer than the 47 point UConn win. Maybe closer to a 35+ win. Plenty of time for the bench to get some solid minutes.

No. 17 Kentucky vs LSU - Cancelled

**************************************************

By David in Naples

Active discussion going on at various UConn sites about Mir McLean's playing time. While she has appeared in 17 of the Huskies 18 games, her minutes total just 129 for the season. Even Saylor Poffenbarger came into the St. John's game ahead of Mir on Wednesday. Those in favor of more playing time point to some positive stats for McLean:

1. 41 rebounds, including 21 offensive.
2. 48.8% shooting overall, 1-2 from three range.
3. 2nd best free throw shooter at 78.6% (11-14)
4. 9 assists (same number as Aaliyah) and only 7 turnovers.
5. 52 points compares favorably to Nika's 55 in less than half the minutes (129 vs 330)

Critics point to the 23 personal fouls vs 22 for Aubrey. In addition, Mir's minutes have suffered for several reasons unrelated to her personal stats.

1. She is a clone of Aubrey, with less experience.
2. She competes with Aubrey, Aaliyah, Olivia and Evina for playing time and honestly, is not better than any of them right now.
3. Saylor offers Geno something the team sorely needs.... 3 point shooting.
4. She is a freshman. She hasn't mastered the offense yet.

Go Huskies..!!
