Let by Olivia Nelson-Ododa, UConn put a hurtin' on the Creighton Blue Jays 80-47 in Storrs.

When you look at the box score you can see how much the team has changed since then. How you might ask???

- Anna Makurat started and played 32 minutes. She had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. 2-5 on threes.

- Buckers only took 10 shots and scored 11 points. She did have 5 assists but also 5 turnovers.

- Nika Muhl didn't get off the bench. I don't remember if she was injured or just not ready to play up to Geno's standards.

- Edwards played only 12 minutes and scored 4 points and grabbed 2 rebounds.

I believe that all four of those things will look very different in this game.

Creighton is coming off two games that couldn't be more different. They first played DePaul, No. 3 in the Big East conference and then Marquette, No. 2 in the Big East conference.

Against DePaul, they played their best game of the season, beating the Blue Demons 83-72. The 83 points are the second most they have scored all season, only the 88 points against Butler being more. I did watch some of this game and much of this was DePaul's poor defense. The Blue Jays shot 58% from the field and 53% on threes. And they were an amazing 17-18 on free throws. DePaul was as bad offensively as they were defensively. Just a bad game for Bruno's team.

The Marquette game couldn't have been more different. Playing against the solid defense of the Golden Eagles, Creighton struggled to find the bottom of the net. They only scored 41 points, more than half of what they scored against DePaul, and shot 29% from the field, 28% on threes, and 5-9 on free throws. They also had 22 turnovers.

Creighton put up 29 three pointers in the first game against UConn. I expect them to do at least this many in this game. But the UConn defense is really on a roll. Like David says in his stats, the Huskies have only given up 35 PPG the last three game. I expect that average to continue. And UConn should be able to get into the high 70's or more.

Look for a UConn 40+ point win.

I saw this information on a UConn message board and thought I would share it with you. It's so interesting to see how Geno distributes minutes for his freshman.

The conventional wisdom has always been that Geno doesn't start freshman but that is just not true. There are several freshmen that actually started every game and take a look at 2010-2011. Geno started two freshmen the majority of their games.

Paige is far and away the freshman with the most minutes per game. And this year they have three freshmen averaging 20+ minutes per game.

From a UConn fan well connected in the recruiting world - "One of UConn's incoming freshman for 2021,  Caroline Ducharme's game from a week ago. Two things stand out. She is so much better than the competition it's ridiculous. Also, she has a chance to be an incredible player. She pulls off three Paigeish highlight-reel passes, shows post-up skills, the ability to hit off the bounce, and great IQ and anticipation."

Final stats: 38 points (17-29 FG, 4-11 3-PT), 13 rebounds, 11 steals, 5 assists in 22 minutes.

I know how frustrating it can be to click on one of the links I post and it's a subscription site. In fact, I don't read a those articles as I only have a subscription to The Courant. Well, my wife does.

But I just found out that there is a site you can copy the article URL into and it will show you the article. Now, you didn't hear this from me!!! I'm not sure how kosher this is.

Just tested a few. It didn't work every time.

The Secret Link!!! I'll add this to where I post my links so it's there for future blogs.

UConn's defense has improved dramatically over the season. In the last three games, opponents have scored 104 points or 35 pts per game. Were those opponents better or worse than Creighton, the next Huskies' foe? Well, those three wins were over Georgetown, St. John's and Xavier. Here's Creighton's record vs those three:

1. Georgetown - They beat G'town twice by scores of 65-57 and then recently 42-41. UConn won by 24 pts two weeks ago.
2. Creighton has not played St. John's yet.
3. Xavier lost to Creighton 53-50. We beat Xavier by 47 pts and 51 pts.

This game should not be close due to UConn's defense. Consider the following stats:
1. UConn opponents shot 25%, 29% and 31% in those last 3 games.
2. For the season, UConn has 107 blocked shots and forced 282 turnovers.
3. Creighton's top 3 players are 5'9", 5'9" and 6'1".
4. Creighton has 232 turnovers in 16 games. That is 15 per game.
5. Creighton just lost to Marquette on Monday and scored only 41 points.

Defense is the key to this win. the 2nd time a team plays Geno & company in a season is when scouting makes the biggest difference. UConn by 30+.

Go Huskies..!!
