Sometimes I just don't get fans. It seems they have to find something to complain about, even in a game where Geno says it was the best game they played all season.
I wrote a bit on "perspective" a few days ago and I probably could write that every day.
Someone said - "Paige Bueckers is good and will be one of the greats but she struggles when they play real teams it takes her a minute to figure things out UCONN strength of schedule doesnt tell the real story"
My response was "She does? The one tough shooting game was against Tennessee. But she still managed to hit the big shot. Who else?"
I mean, you can only do what you do against the teams on the schedule. These are still Div I teams and the basket is still 10 feet high. It was just an ignorant statement.
Here is another. "Can someone tell me why ONO spends so much time on both offense and defense near the 3 point line? Is she being told to? Seems like she’s spending more time out there than in the paint."
Sigh...that is just another crazy statement. It seems people don't understand high and low post. Against South Carolina, she will draw Boston away from the basket so Boston can't block shots and open the lane for the guards to drive. And Olivia had 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the game they were complaining about. It's basic basketball.
And another one I just didn't get....
"I'd like to see Aubrey guard Boston, let Liv come over to help out if she posts up and others rotate defensively. Also can Mir draw some offensive fouls on her?"
Uh.....Aubrey is only 6'1" and on the wiry side. The 6'5" Boston would just destroy her down low. If Mir takes a charge, she might not be getting up....lol. Come on.....
This one just annoyed me.
"No way is Williams is ready for WNBA. They'll eat her alive, she doesn't have the drive to be the best she can be. She doesn't seem to be all in, she doesn't contribute all that much when her shot isn't falling. To me she's just not playing at a high level, all the time. She doesn't have the killer mentality which is what Uconn bb is all about. Never let up foot on the pedal at all costs!!!"
Then another poster chimed in.
"What WNBA team would draft a 28% shooter from the Big East in the 1st round? “Draft me. I was the #1 rated player in High School”."
I mean, how rude is that?? I pointed out that She hasn't completed her junior season yet. She has a full senior season to improve that stat. She shot 33% last year and 37% the year before What the heck does the Big East have to do with it? She is not being drafted in a vacuum. I saw one mock draft for 2022 and she was the No. 4 pick.
I understand that some people don't follow the game of basketball and how it works that closely. They just like UConn women's basketball. But come on, some of this stuff is just dumb and some is just mean. And unnecessary.
Ok...rant over.

There was still an undefeated team coming into Saturday's action. UC Davis was 5-0 coming into their game with No. 12 Oregon. Looks like Oregon is going to win this game.
I was surprised so I took a look at their schedule.
They won their opening game on November 25 against San Francisco and then had their next 10 games cancelled. They finally played again on January 22nd and beat UC San Diego.
In what became a scheduling pattern, they played UC San Diego again the next day on the same court. They did the same thing with UC Santa Barbara, back to back games.
After this Oregon game, they will do the same things with Long Beach State, Cal Poli and Hawaii.
Crazy.

No TOP 25 games were cancelled Saturday, but sadly every Big East game was cancelled.
Xavier vs St. John's
Villanova at Creighton
Providence at Georgetown

No. 12 Oregon vs UC Davis - Late game
No. 21 West Virginia 81 Texas 75 - It was certainly better than the 92-58 loss to West Virginia the first time these two teams met, but Texas still didn't have enough in the tank and lost at home to the Mountaineers. Kristen Deans had a great game for West Virginia with 30 points and Kysre Gondrezick added 20 points. Charli Collier had 21 points to lead Texas.
No. 23 South Dakota State 80 South Dakota 75 - South Dakota State won the second of back to back games against South Dakota, going 2-0 on the weekend series. Tylee Irwin hit a go-ahead jumper with 14.1 seconds left, Myah Selland and Paiton Burckhard combined for 48 points, and No. 23 South Dakota State scored the last 13 points of the game to beat South Dakota 80-75 on Saturday night. Myah Selland had 26 points and Paiton Burckhard had 22 points for the Jackrabbits. Both teams shot very well in this game but South Dakota State shot a little better and hit a few more foul shots to take the game. The Coyotes did a much better job in this game compared to the Friday night game but it still wasn't enough for the win.The Coyotes their largest lead, 75-67 with 2:56 remaining but didn't score again while the Jackhammers ran off 13 points. Chloe Lamb led South Dakota with 18 points.
