St. John's Season to Date
St. John's has played one of the weaker schedules so far this season. They started the season beating St. Peter's (Massey 300) 80-39, Long Island University (335) 67-50, Loyola Maryland (290) 69-61, Rhode Island (147) 60-45, Marist (256) 69-49, and Stony Brook (187) 58-34.
Yes, a nice 6-0 start but you can see the ratings of the teams they beat. All expected wins for the Johnnies.
They finally met a higher ranked team Harvard (47) and lost 54-52. Another winning streak followed that loss. They beat Penn State (59) 72-67, Wake Forest (114) 63-45, Hofstra (250) 62-38 and Fairfield (98) 77-68.
So, a good job to start the season, going 10-1 in their out of conference schedule. The Big East would be a different story.
The Red Storm lost their first four conference games. Villanova (65) 71-57, Creighton (28) 75-56, Providence (131) 59-52 OT and DePaul (107) 67-60.
Their only win was in the last game against the worst team in the Big East Xavier (251) winning 60-39.

St. John's Starters
Game Analysis
Leading scorer for the Red Storm is Lashae Dwyer, a 5'6" Senior Guard who is a Miami transfer. She is the only double digit scorer for the Johnnies averaging 14.7 PPG. She takes almost twice as many shots as the next player. Not a great shooter, she is shooting 41.8% from the field and 26.2% on threes.
Ber'niya Mayo is a 5'6" Grad Student guard is in her second season at St. John's. She was a transfer from UMass. This season she is second on the team in scoring at 9.4 PPG. She is shooting 41.5% from the field and 9-33 (27.3%) on threes. She leads the team in assists with 48 and only 21 turnovers.
When your two best scorers shoot as badly as Dwyer and Mayo, you struggle to find points.
6' Senior forward Phoenix Gedeon is in her second season with St. John's after transfering from Robert Morris. She is averaging 6.3 PPG and 5.1 RPG.
Kylie Lavelle is the "Big" on the team. The 6'2" Junior Forward is a transfer from Penn State. Kylie is St. John's tallest player and she averages 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, .8 assists, .8 steals, .8 blocks.
Jailah Donald is a 5'7" Junior Guard. She averages about 30 minutes per game. Her stat line is 5.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and .8 three-pointers per game.
Off the bench St. John's plays 5'7" junior guards Skye Owen and 5'9" Grad Student transfer from Monmouth ArianaVanderhoop.
So, there you have it. The lowdown on the St. John's' rotation.
St. John's only shoots 43% from the field and 32% on threes. They have an improved assists to turnover ratio from last season at 1.0. They do turn teams over with 17.4 per game. Defense is their strength but with the weak schedule, it's difficult to put that into perspective. They give up 53.7 PPG and turn their opponents over 18.4.
Final Prediction
Getting this report out a little early so no word on Paige. Hopefully she is playing but it won't change my prediction.
Another game against a weak BE opponent. It's another chance to give everyone solid minutes. St. John's will keep the Huskies scoring down, possibly under 80. But this St. John's team is scoring challenged. Even against this weak schedule they are only averaging 63 PPG. I'm not sure they will score over 45 unless they have a hot first quarter like Georgetown did in the last game. I'm doubting that will happen.
UConn by 35+. It could be a big +.
GO UCONN!!!
