Georgetown Season to Date

Georgetown had a great start to last season going 13-4. However, they finished the season 10-8 the rest of the way. They were 9-9 in the Big East.

This year they are starting the season like they played in the second half of last year.Prior to the first UConn game this season they were 6-4. They had a tough start going 2-3. They beat Virginia Lynchbury 88-31 and Temple 65-51 and also lost to Wisconsin 79-61, Cincinnati 59-57 and Florida Gulf Coast 66-57.

The Hoyas then went on a four game winning streak with victories against Boston Universary 69-61, Howard 69-63, Richmond 55-53 and Colgate 71-57.

They then lost at home to George Mason 63-55.

UConn beat them handily in Hartford 79-44. The Hoyas bounced back with two wins beating Maryland Eastern-Shores in their last OOC game 78-68 and then easily beat a terrible Xavier team 64-41

In their last two games they beat Seton Hall 74-71 in overtime and Villanova 77-62 to go 8-7 overall and 1-3 in the Big East.

 Game Analysis

These kinds of games, where UConn is playing one of the weaker teams in the conference, are always difficult to analyze. All I can do is lay out the stats and details. Not much analysis to explain. We do have the first game to go by and UConn won that 79-44.

Their strength is still their defense as they hold their opponents to 61.6 PPG.

Kelsey Ransom, a 5'10" Grad student guard, is Georgetown's best player. In 34.5 MPG she averages 20.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.3 steals. She is shooting 35% on threes.  She leads the team in assists at 4.2 per game but she doesn't have a good assist/turnover ratio with 66 assists and 65 turnovers. UConn held her to 7 points in the first game.

Victoria Rivera, 6’0” Junior Guard, is averaging 12.7 PPG. She leads the team in taking three pointers with 7 per game and is shooting them at 40.8%. She had 6 points in the first game.

Arrial Jenkins, a 6'3" senior forward is the only size on the team. This season she is averaging a double double scoring 12.7 PPG and rebounding at 10.4 RPG. She led the Hoyas with 12 points 9 rebounds in the first matchup.

Georgetown has had several players filling the last two starting spots.

Freshmen guards and are really struggling so far this season. 5'8" Khadee Hession is averaging 5.3 PPG and shooting 35.7% from the field and 31.7% on threes. 5'10" Jayden McBride is averaging 5.3 PPG on 34.3% from the field and 33% on threes.  5'8" Jaeda Wilson is averaging 4.7 PPG on 37% shooting and 11.8% on threes. She did score 10 points against the Huskies in the first game.

They do have a transfer from Richmond, Grad Student Soibhan Ryan who is averaging 1.9 PPG on 26% shooting and 18% on threes.

As you can see, Georgetown will rely solely on their big three double digit scorers.

Strategy for Georgetown? Survival. With the talent discrepancy, they obviously have no shot at an upset. They just won't want to be embarrassed and do better at home than they did in the first game against UConn.. That will be difficult for them to accomplish.

Final Prediction

Georgetown is just way overmatched in this game. They are a poor shooting team going against a terrific defensive team. I said they wouldn't 50 points in the first game and they only had 44. I can't see them beating that.

The Huskies might struggle to put points up over 80 points. They held UConn to 79 in the first matchup and that could happen again.

Georgetown will make it a little closer in this game with Bueckers out and on their home court.

UConn by 30+.
