The coaches poll is out and there was an interesting change. UConn, after defeating South Carolina by 25 points was the unanimous choice for the top spot. And deservedly so.

This week, with UConn and South Carolina both winning, ONE coach decided that UConn was not so deserved and that coach voted South Carolina No. 1. Really. It happened.

Unfortunately, the coaches votes are not revealed until after the season is over. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was a mistake. A slip of the ballot. A hanging chad, so to speak. My guess is that next weeks poll will reverse that vote and UConn will be the unanimous number one again.

But if it really was some coaches opinion. That somehow, they believed that South Carolina was number one. What could the possible reasons be? Here is David Letterman's top ten list of reasons this coach voted South Carolina number one......

10. "Don't ask me, my dog voted for me this week"
9. "I lost my ballot so I sent in an old one."
8. "I missed the UConn/South Carolina Game...who won??"
7. "A. UConn lost to Stanford. B. SCarolina lost to UConn. C. UConn is better than Stanford. D.  South Carolina is better."
6. "Dawn said she has a better perspective than Gene because she was a former great player, and since that didn't change I didn't change my vote."
5. "I'm just as dumb as a rock. Why do you think I coach for a living?"
4. "The AAC sucks as a conference, so I don't count any of UConn's wins there."
3. "I asked Pat Summitt who she would vote for. Since I couldn't vote for Tennessee I voted for SC."
2. "I'm sick and tired of UConn."

And the top reason this coach didn't vote for UConn???

1. "Uh....pass me that bong....now....what was the question again?????"

Top twenty-five upset Tuesday with unranked Minnesota slamming 13th ranked Iowa 93-80. Minnesota was led by their amazing 6'5" center, Amanda Zahui B from Stockholm Sweden. She had one of the more dominating performances of the season with 39 points and 29 rebounds. And she is only a sophomore. Her performance overshadowed another great performance by Iowa's Samantha Logic, who had 26 points on 11-19 shooting, 3-5 on three's and an amazing 13 assists.

There will be more to come Wednesday when I write the UConn/Houston but one unusual thing happened in the game. For the second consecutive game UConn's opponent didn't take a foul shot. Not one. Now, I'm sure some (non-UConn fans) will say that the refs are biased in favor of UConn. The fact is UConn is always at or near the top of teams in lack of fouling.  Geno called this two game streak unusual. Very unusual. And the opponents had a lot to do with it. They mostly took perimeter shots, and as Geno said, they rarely foul jump shooters.

Ugly Game Of The Day

So, I'm watching the UConn game with a friend and he suggested I should stop using UConn's opponents for the UGGY award. That I probably could use their opponents every UConn game. And he is probably correct. But for this edition of the award, there is no doubt who is the lucky recipient.

The Houston Cougars definitely earned this one. Scoring only 29 points, they shot 20.3% from the field. 11% (2-18) on 3's. And only 4 assists and 22 turnovers. Certainly an award winning performance. And lucky them, they win the brand new shiny trophy pictured above!

Honorable Mention

Here is an unusual HM for the Uggy. UConn shot 3-17 on three's. It was really ugly.
