Here is my Memphis Post Game Report. And here are some additional quotes about the benching from Stewart and Geno.

Stewart - "The message was sent. It didn't really feel like anything crazy, we got off to slow starts Morgan (Tuck, also benched for most of the Memphis game) and myself, we are to blame for that, we are leaders of the team and the way we go about our business at the start of the game, we are setting the tone for the rest of the game."

Stewart again - "We are going to go hard and show that we are the best team in the country for a reason. It is huge for us to come out with energy because we are going to be battling for 40 minutes. It helps that we are going to be playing a home game in front of a sellout crowd, hopefully. We have to be prepared to take their punches, as long as we are always on the attack, they have
to defend us. We have to punch them first, attack them first to show that this is how the game is going to go."
Geno - "I hope she doesn't put her message in a bottle and I get in three years from now floating in the Long Island sound in my house in Niantic, I hope it is more immediate than that. I am not into this message thing. I told them that, I explained it to them yesterday and today, I am not into messages. Look, it is not easy playing here and it is not easy for the wrong reasons. There is no Machiavellian things going on in our office where we are going 'hey, how can we come with up this diabolical plan to make these guys better.' The reason it is not easy to play here is that the bar is set
so high that I think it infects all of us."
Geno again - "If you are waiting for (South Carolina) or you are waiting for Notre Dame or Stanford, Duke or UCLA or name any of the teams on our schedule that everybody thinks is going to be pretty good then you are less than who you are. I just talk to them and said you want to be great against some of the lesser teams come out in the opening 20 minutes get your triple-double and go 'OK, Gabby your turn.' Don't come out and be less than you are. I am not punishing them. Punishing them would be to make them play. I am not trying to send a message, I am not punishing them. I am saying 'look, if you are going to less than I think you are there is no point in playing.' Nobody in history of academics or athletics has ever gotten less out of their abilities than me from the time I was in 10th grade to today. I hate when I see it in other people and I am going to prevent it to the best of my ability."

Here is my South Carolina Preview.

******************************************************************************

In the big upset of the day, No. 12 (not for long) Stanford lost to now 9-14 Arizona 60-57. This is a big loss for Stanford. They are looking more and more like a 4 seed. Stanford had beaten Arizona 24 consecutive games, 9 straight inside their home arena, McKale Center.

In their first matchup, Stanford hammered Arizona, beating them by 30 points. And in this game, Stanford appeared to have the game under control. They ran out to a 30-18 halftime lead and scored the first basket of the second half to take a 14 point lead. But Arizona somehow scored the next 10 points until Stanford called a timeout trying to slow Arizona's momentum. That worked as the teams exchanged baskets over the next several minutes. Taylor Greenfield hit a three point shot with 2:14 remaining to give Stanford an eight point lead. I'm sure they felt pretty good about then. Arizona hit a couple of free throws and made a layup to cut it back to four points. Bonnie Samuelson hit a three with 1:18 left and again, at 57-50 , Stanford had to feel confident they had this game in the bag.

This is when it got interesting. Arizona his a three to cut it back to four points, 57-53 with one minute left in the game. Arizona fouled Bonnie Samuelson with 56 second left and the 90% FT shooter missed the front end of the 1-1. Arizona drove the length of the floor missing a layup. They grabbed the offensive rebound and with 38 seconds left, Candice Warthen hit a jumper to close it to 57-55. At this point Arizona had the time to just try and hold Stanford on this possession and hopefully have a shot at tying the game or even hitting a three to win. Stanford ran the clock down and B. Samuelson missed a three point shot with 15 seconds left. Stanford (Thompson) fouled Arizona with 8 seconds left. You figured Stanford would at least have a chance to win if Arizona tied the game on the free throws. Warthen hit the first and missed the second. Arizona grabbed the offensive rebound and Warthen his a jumper with 3 seconds left. Stanford turned the ball over and fouled as Arizona and Warthen hit the final two free throws for the final margin.

You just don't see a Stanford team collapse like this very often. And with the Arizona State the game before, now it's two in a row.  It was a game they had to win and they lost in the most horrible way. Again.

Ugly Game Of The Day

Pittsburgh, one of those teams supposedly better than the lousy AAC teams, lost to Louisville 48-35. It's hard to believe this Pitt team beat No. 13 UNC 84-59 earlier in the season.

Pitt not only scored a meager 35 points, they shot 21% from the field, 27% (4-15) on three's and only 7 assists and 17 turnovers. They have always played a brand of ugly ball from what I've seen. Sunday they capped it off by winning the UGGY!!!! Congrats to the Pirates. Arrrrrggggggg...

Honorable Mention

Providence is coming off a previous win of the UGGY award with a pretty ugly follow up game. They did manage to shoot better but the 26 turnovers get them the HM.

Alabama, the bottom of the SEC joins in Sunday. 39 points, 31% from the field, 6% (1-17) on three's, and only 6 assists with their 21 turnovers.

Utah grabs an HM with their performance Sunday. 45 points,  27% FG, 24% (5-21) on three's and 16 turnovers.
