In case you missed it here is my Tulane Pregame Report

My friend David in Naples has such a great eye for interesting stats. Here is his latest effort!!!

UConn's stats from Tulsa kept coming up 6's...

In basketball, you can't have a 6 on your jersey. Refs can't signal to the scorer's table, not enough fingers. But everything else in the victory against Tulsa came up 6's. UConn doubled up Tulsa and came away w/ a 92-46 victory. Consider the following:

1. Moriah led the team in assists w/ 6. She also had 6 rebounds.
2. Stewie dominated the lane w/ 6 blocks.
3. KML made 6 baskets & Morgan took 6 shots.
4. Six UConn players were in the game for twenty minutes or more.
5. Saniya took 6 threes, had 6 combined assists & turnovers as well as 6 combined fouls & rebounds.
6. The only time the score was tied all game it was 6-6.
7. Stokes and Gabby came off the bench and combined for 6 offensive rebounds and 6 defensive rebounds. They also had 6 combined steals & blocks.
8. Kia Nurse made 6 shots during the game. (five baskets and one free throw)
9. TLAW and Pulido played a total of 6 minutes.
10. So far in 2015, UConn has 6 road victories and 6 games of scoring in the 90’s. (They also lead the nation in 6 statistical categories.)

GREAT JOB DAVID!!!

If you were wondering if there was parity in WCBB, just look at Sunday's games that involved Top Twenty-five teams.

No. 10 Duke lost to unranked NCST
No. 18 Stanford lost to unranked California
No. 19 Rutgers lost to unranked Michigan State
No. 23 James Madison lost to unranked Hofstra.

Four upsets. And there's more.

No. 12 Arizona State beat unranked USC in double OT by 3.
No. 14 Mississippi state beat unranked and terrible Alabama by 2.
No. 17 North Carolina beat Miami by 1.

I'm looking forward to the South Carolina Tennessee game. Let's see if either of these teams separates themselves from the rest of the pack.

******************************************************************************

Speaking of South Carolina and Tennessee, their game Monday night will go a long way in determining No. 1 seeds.

So, how does this game shake out??

Let's take a quick look.

The big news for this game is the season ending injury to Isabelle Harrison. Her absence is a huge impact to the outcome of this game.

Tennessee finished the Kentucky game where Harrison was injured on pure adrenaline and emotion carrying them down the stretch. And the following game was against a weak Alabama game. This game will be a different story.

The front line matchup will still be a pretty good one. Graves has been playing really well lately and Burdick can be a force on the boards. Moore had some great early season success but is too thin to have an impact on this game. Freshman Jamie Narad is going to be a good player but too green for this big road game.

South Carolina is big up front. And against the Tennessee front line sans Harrison, they should be able to dominate. Just like most teams don't have a player to match up with Stewart, Tennessee has no one to handle Wilson. A'ja has been coming on strong since the UConn game averaging 20 ppg over the three games. And Coates is just too big. When Coates has a big size advantage, she can dominate.

I'd give the frontline advantage to South Carolina.

In the backcourt, we find another good matchup. Tennessee is now starting Massingale and Carter. One great offensive player and weak defensive player and the other a weak offensive player and great defensive player. Tennessee will play these two as much as they can, trying to help Massengale with whoever she is covering. I don't think that the freshman MIddleton is ready for this type of game. She is not seasoned enough or quick enough. Reynold has been in and out with a head injury and was 0-6 in her last outing. She looked a little shaky.

South Carolina has all-American Mitchell and she will be the best guard on the court. Sessions found her 3 point shot at UConn and has been terrific since then. Cuevas played only 2 minutes against Arkansas. I haven't heard if she is injured or benched. It's tough for freshman guards not named Nurse.

I can't wait to see Carter slap some defense on Mitchell. That will be a great matchup. But I think Massengale might struggle with the defense that South Carolina will put on her. I'd give an edge to South Carolina in the backcourt.

I don't think either coach are very good at teaching offense. They both rely on dominating the boards and pressuring the offense with on the ball defense. Typical SEC basketball. We could see a game in the 50's.

So, I guess it's clear I think that South Carolina will win. I haven't even mentioned the 18,000 screaming SC fans. It could get ugly for Tennessee. But I don't think South Carolina will score enough to do that to the Lady Vols.

So I'll guess a 63-56 Gamecock win.

Ugly Game Of The Day

Talk about a roller coaster ride. The University of Georgia has been up and down all season. Starting out of the top twenty-five, the Bulldogs jumped to No. 23 in the first AP poll. Here is their poll numbers over the course of the season.

Week 3 No. 22 (4-0)
Week 4 No. 19 (7-0)
Week 5 No. 16 (10-0) first team with 10 wins
Week 6 No. 15 (10-0)
Week 7 No. 14 (11-0)
Week 8 No. 19 (11-1)
Week 9 No. 20 (13-2)
Week 10 No. 18 (15-2)
Week 11 No. 22 (16-3)
Week 12 No. 21 (17-4)
Week 13 No. 22 (17-5)
Week 14 No. 24 (17-6)

Before Sunday's game they were now in the "receiving votes" area with four votes. And their record was 17-9 having lost 6 consecutive games.

Now, the first three games in that streak were against top ten teams. So, it explains why they were still in the top twenty five after those losses. But the last three were against unranked teams where they only scored 48, 48, and 52 points.

It looks like they just fell off the cliff, but after Sunday's game, it was more like falling into the Grand Canyon.

Sunday, they lost their 7th consecutive game to 10-17 Auburn. A team that had lost to Winthorp and  Hampton OOC. Georgia just lost to a team that had 14 consecutive losses coming into the game.

So, ok...they lost. That doesn't make then an UGGY candidate. Losing seven straight games doesn't make them an UGGY candidate. Dropping out of the top twenty-five like a rock doesn't do it either.

But these numbers do:

They scored 26 points, 11 in the second half. They shot  24% from the field,  18% (2-11) on three pointers, and had 6 assists 27 turnovers. This game was REALLY ugly. So congrats Georgia Bulldogs, for having the Ugliest Game of the Day award. A real worthy UGGY winner!!!
