What a great day for the UConn women's basketball and their seniors Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Kiah Stokes. So much to write about. And I'll be working on that once I publish this Daily. Some amazing numbers. You will see some of them defensively in the UGGY post below. UConn was just amazing on D. And here is an interesting tidbit. KML was 5-8 from beyond the arc for the 3rd consecutive game.

Look soon for the UConn's Senior Day Post Game report. There will be tons of pictures and analysis.

Here is the pregame report for the UConn/South Florida Rematch in Tampa.

There has been a lot of talk about Baylor deserving a #1 seed. Most felt that their great record was more a product of a weak OOC schedule and a weaker Big 12 conference. Saturday, they lost to unranked ranked Iowa State 76-70 after losing the previous game to unranked Oklahoma 68-64.

Both of these were road games for Baylor. Oklahoma and Iowa State are not bad teams. But they are not teams a No. 1 seed would have lost to. Looks like those folks that doubted Baylor were correct. They will still be a tough out in the NCAA tourney, but after the last two games, it's hard to see them as a final four team.

The AAC's chance for having three teams make the NCAA tourney took a big blow when Tulane lost on the road to Tulsa.
Kelsee Grovey's two three-pointers in the final 1:23 gave Tulsa a five-point lead and the Hurricane held on for a 55-52 victory. Tough loss for the Green Wave. They really needed this game to have a shot.

Ugly Game Of The Day

As I watched the UConn/Memphis game, I thought it would be difficult to pick anyone but them for the ugly game. Then I remembered the words of one of the great basketball minds of all time, Dan K, who told me that any team playing UConn should be disqualified from winning the UGGY. UConn's defense does it to everyone. So, considering his words of wisdom, Memphis will only receive an  Honorable Mention.

Saturday's winner, Memphis aside, is a terrific candidate for the Ugly Game of the Day trophy. In their rematch with Green Bay, Youngstown state (19-8) was given a good smack down, losing 73-27.

The Penguins were ice cold from the field, shoot only 15% (6-40) from the field, 8% (2-25)from beyond the arc and only 4 assists and 17 turnovers. If they didn't get to the line 21 times, and making 13 of them, they might not have score more than 20 points instead of 27.

Congrats Youngstown State for a truly deserving UGGY award!!!!

Honorable Mention

Gotta show some love to Memphis for their ugly effort against UConn. Yes, UConn played some amazing defense that was just beautiful, but I don't want to totally downplay the Tigers UGGY worthy game.

They only managed 24 points on 19% (11-57) shooting, 11.1% (2-18) on threes, 8 assists and 18 turnovers.
