Congrats to the UConn men's team, who beat Colorado in their opening game of the NCAA's. They seem to have really found their mojo. Sophomore, Daniel Hamilton, continued his great play with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rodney Purvis led the team with 19 points. They outrebounded the bigger Colorado team, 36-33.

Down 9 at the half, UConn was fantastic in the second half. They had a 12 point lead with 3 minutes left but let Colorado back into the game. Fortunately, they hit 22-23 free throws, Sterling Gibbs was 6-6 in the last minute to secure the victory.

Unfortunately, they will be playing overall No. 1 seed Kansas in the next round game on Saturday. Maybe unfortunate for Kansas??? We shall see!

GO UCONN!

Exactly how good is UConn's defense this season? Consider the following:

1. UConn led the nation in scoring defense with opponents scoring just 47.9 points per game.
2. Opponents made 607 baskets, but UConn forced 679 turnovers.
3. The Huskies blocked 206 shots for an average of 6.44 per game. (2nd in the country)
4. UConn had the fewest personal fouls per game in the nation, but still had 390 steals.
5. Opponents missed 1,230 shots from the field or 67% of their attempts. (4th in the country)
6. UConn gave up only 143 points from the free throw line, only 4.5 pts per game.
7. Six Huskies have more than one steal per game, five have more than 1.4 steals per game.
8. Opponents scored 374 points in the 1st period, an average of only 11.6 pts per game vs 23.3 pts for UConn.
9. UConn scored 746 points in the 1st period while giving up just 728 points in the first half.
10. UConn was in the top 10 in the country for nine defensive categories.

The Huskies have the best defense in the country any way you look at it. Some believe defense wins National Championship. In case it doesn't, UConn also scores 87.6 points per game. 8-)
