Standings in the DoggyDaddy's Dailies brackets will be out on Tuesday after the second round games are complete.

Texas got lucky in their win over NC State. The 3rd seeded Longhorns got two breaks from the refs in the last minute of play. The first was when the star point guard Miah Spencer picked up her fifth foul on a play that should have never been called. Just some incidental contact that did not impact the game. And then Joyner Holmes took a charge when to me at least, it was clear her feet were moving when the contact happened. The NCST player made the basket but it was waved off on the offensive foul.

Other then that, it certainly was the most entertaining game of the Sunday matchups. Congrats to Texas. They look like a tough out!

I watched most of the South Carolina/Arizona State game. Boy, were the Gamecocks lucky to escape with a win. ASU had an early lead that they maintained for most of the game but South Carolina caught them and built a ten point lead. Arizona State roared back in the fourth quarter to take a one point lead but A'ja Wilson hit a put back to give SC the lead and ASU couldn't get that last basket to win. South Carolina might have won, but it looks like they might have lost Alisha Gray to a knee injury late in the game. That would mean they would be down 2 starters against their next opponent. THey are fortunate that it's against a 12 seed in Quinnipiac. But while it's not 1998 and Stanford vs Harvard, it could be another big upset.

I usually root for the underdog (except in UConn games) but by the end of this game I was rooting hard against South Carolina. I just can't stand the eye rolls, swearing, complaining and overall crappy sportsmanship shown by the South Carolina players. Especially Wilson, who has never committed a foul in her life. Just ask her. She also throws those elbows around and twice she just missed hitting her defender.  Not cool.

Tough news for Notre Dame. In the last minute of the first half, Brianna Turner looks to have hurt her left knee. I have making a prediction but just like I mentioned with Alisha Gray, it was a non-contact injury and typically is an ACL. More to come.

Notre Dame almost blew this one. It took OT to beat Purdue 88-82. Notre Dame had a 15 point lead in the 3rd quarter and a 10 point lead with 5 minutes left in the game. But Purdue found a way to stop the ND offense and they tied the score at 74-74. Lindsay Allen took over leading the ND offense to 14 points in the 5 minute OT period.

Hopefully, good new about Turner tomorrow, but I'm not getting a good feeling about it.

The number 100 is one of the best numbers in the world. It is large, round and totals a century. While bowling 100 may not be fun, getting to 100 in basketball is a great milestone. >:D   For example, Crystal Dangerfield passed 100 assists with her performance against Albany. She now has 103 on the season. Katie Lou used a career high 9 assists to pass 100 as well. She is now at 107 for the year and UConn once again has 5 players with 100 or more assists. UConn also scored over 100 points for the 5th time this season in their 116-55 beat down of the Great Danes. Napheesa Collier made four free throws to get to 102 for the season. She leads the team in free throws attempted and made (102-122 or 83.6%).

Ten is also a great number, because 10 x 10 = 100. And 10 was the perfect number for the Huskies against Albany. Gabby made 10 free throws (out of eleven) and Pheesa had 10 baskets on route to 24 points. Both Gabby and Napheesa had 10 rebounds and both had a double-double for points and rebounds. Both Kia and Crystal took 10 shots each and totaled 40 points..!!  :D   Together, they made 10 three point baskets. While UConn made thirteen threes total, 10 of those came in the 2nd half as the Huskies put the hammer down. And finally, as a team, the Huskies only had 10 turnovers.

Next up for UConn is Syracuse, in a repeat of last year's Championship game on Monday night.

Go Huskies..!!

  1. A little prognostication on South Carolina's next match up? Quinipiac needs to beat Miami first. They are playing right now. Do you know something?
