Duke coach Joanne McCallie will remain coach after the schools investigation. Here is the link.
To me this is a big surprise. The team has underperformed and several players have transferred including their best player, Azura Stevens, who is transferring to UConn.
I'm sure we will hear more, but this looks like it's over. I suppose this is good for anyone playing Duke. I don't think she is a very good coach.
TONIGHT |
PreSeason
Connecticut Sun 82 Dallas Sky 74
Connecticut was down early 18-6 at the half but Dallas had no answer for the Sun's offense the last three quarters as Connecticut scored 28, 25 and 23 to finish the game. They outscored Dallas by 14 in the second quarter to take a two point lead at the half. A big third quarter pushed the Sun to the victory. They were led by rookie Jonquell Jones who scored 16 points on 5-10 shooting also going 2-4 on threes. Kelly Faris, looking to solidy a roster spot, had a terrific game. She only scored 4 points but she grabbed 7 rebounds from the guard position and had 5 big steals. I think she makes it. Tuck was in Storrs doing nothing special...well...except graduating!!! Congrats Morgan!
Washington Mystics 85 Minnesota Lynx 68
Washington hammered Minnesota in their preseason game. Like the earlier Sun game where they fell behind early, the Lynx were down to the Mystics by 17 after one quarter. That ended up being the final margin. Washington was led by Tayler Hilll with 18 points and Rutgers rookie Kaleah Copper who had 17 points. Stefanie Dolson had 6 points and 3 rebounds. For Minnesota Maya Moore had 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Renee Montgomery had 11 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.
Seattle Storm 76 Phoenix Mercury 70
In a pretty tight game throughout, the Storm outlasted the Mercury. For Seattle, Sue Bird had 9 points, 3 assists and 4 steals. Breanna Stewart was out of the lineup. She was a little busy.
