Here is my UConn/Maryland Pre Game Report
*********************************************************************************
UConn looked to be at mid-season form defensively in beating up on No. 20 California, 82-47.
The offense was sporadic after a 30 point first period, and the loss of Samuelson late in the first half didn't help. If you didn't know, Katie Lou stepped on someone's foot and has a mid-foot sprain of her left foot. We will know more on Saturday her status for Sunday. I would be she sits that one out in order to get her ready for UCLA on the road in a game that will have several family members and friends in the arena rooting her on.
Dangerfield was terrific again, making the long three pointers look like layups. She was 4-5 on threes helping her score 14 points.
Collier was better in this one, scoring 14 points, but shooting 6-13 is not something we are used to seeing. She has a ways to get to get to her 60% shooting.
Williams was Williams. She scored, rebounds, assisted and defended with gusto. 13 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
Before she was hurt, Samuelson had 12 points and 3 steals in 15 minutes. She was 0-4 on threes and didn't have a chance to improve that number after being injured.
Nurse did what I expected. Shoot better and score some points. She had 14 points and was 2-2 on threes.
Stevens played lousy in the first half. But in her starting effort in the second half she scored all of her 11 points and hit her first three points. I loved her blow by layup, showing some nice quickness for someone her size.
Not much more to say on the game. I'm working hard on the Maryland pregame. Hopefully I won't have to move Samuelson to the injured list in my pregame report!
What a nice first day with all my grandchildren. Here is Logan and my oldest Noa!!!!!
And my middle grandchild Mya helping Logan with a puzzle.
It was wonderful to have everyone together!

Everyone understands that good teams should handily beat bad teams. And, great teams should crush lesser opponents, starting in the 1st period, or at least 1st half. Consider some results from Thursday night:
#5 Louisville finally put away Michigan last night, but only scored 32 in the first half of play. It took Michigan falling apart in the 3rd period, and scoring only 4 points, for Louisville to get a 20+ point victory.
#10 Oregon only scored 28 points in the first half before finally defeating Texas A&M by 15 pts.
#25 Kentucky scored a whopping 27 points in the first half against powerhouse Montana (0-2). Lucky for Kentucky that Montana missed 40 or their 56 shots.
And that brings us to #11 Duke. While fattening up their resume on weak mid-majors like High Point (1-2), the Blue Pansies shot a stellar 11% from three point range, committed 19 turnovers and watched their All-World star Rebecca Greenwell shred High Point for 10 points. In the whole game..
If you are going to schedule the Sisters of the Poor to enhance your record, the least you can do is score tons of points early in the game. Like when UConn pinned 49 points on #10 Stanford, in the 1st half, while holding them to 14. Now that was a beat down..!
Go Huskies..!!
