A couple of recruits were at the game on Sunday. Thanks to my friend sTu for the info.

Paige Bueckers, freshman point guard being compared to Diana Taurasi with her style of play and 14 year old Azzi Fudd, who I mentioned in another blog were both behind the UConn bench. They had to love what they saw!

They were there on their own dime, so always a good sign.

I complained the other day about UConn fans being overly critical of the freshman based on their exhibition game performances. Some were making predictions of future performance using the limited minutes in these two games.

While I don't like those comments, I believe they are over the top and premature, I also don't agree with one particular response to those comments.

One poster was adamant that comments on message boards would put undue pressure on these freshman and future recruits might not want to come to UConn with all that kind of fan pressure.

Balderdash I say!!! Any recruit that doesn't come to UConn based on heavy fan pressure of performance would not even be recruited by Geno.

In truth, the game against Ahsland was over after 3 minutes and 34 seconds of the 1st period. Yes, they played the remaining 36+ minutes of the contest, but the result was already decided. Consider Ashland's first four possessions:
1. Turnover
2. Missed shot
3. Turnover
4. Turnover

At that point, the score was 10-0 UConn. Ashland finally made a basket to make it 10-2, but their next five possessions were a repeat of the first four.
1. Turnover
2. Turnover
3. Missed shot
4. Missed shot
5. Missed shot

Meanwhile, the Huskies scored 19 points on 11 shots, made 3 threes and ran Ashland out of the building. At 19-2, Ashland was finished. The rest of the period went much the same. By the end of the 1st period, the score was 45-11 and the only question was how long the starters would play.

Go Huskies..!!
