I was pretty harsh on Tennessee's performance against Carson-Newman even though they scored 121 points and won by 47.
Sometimes though, it's not what you do, it's how you do it. I talked about their low number of assists.
Compare how they did to what UConn did for the entire season last year.
UConn - 863 assists on 1,210 baskets. That is 71.3%.

For a couple of minutes in the first half I counted how many passes Tennessee made per possession. I never got more than 3. Mostly one and then that player would make a 1-1 move to try to score.
Let's see if they do better on Sunday against East Tennessee State. Last year they played and the Lady Vols beat the Lady Buccaneers 83-58.

Everyone knows the UConn players are unselfish and share the basketball. After all, last year the Huskies crushed the assist record for a single season with 863 assists on 1,210 baskets. That is 71.3%..!! They averaged 23.3 assists per game. And, that was in 37 games, not the 38-40 games the team has played the past few years. The result of this unselfishness is multiple players scoring points and a balanced result in the box score. Key on one player, someone else kills you...
Consider the "made baskets" for the starters plus Z against Ashland. KLS had 9, Pheesa also 9, Z had 8, Kia had 7, Gabby 5 and Crystal with 3. This was with no one playing more than 21 minutes. Throw in Megan Walker with 6 and you have the perfect ladder with 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 made shots. Talk about balance.
In two exhibition games so far, UConn has a ridiculous 63 assists on 87 baskets. That is 72.4%. Yes, they were exhibition games against weaker opponents. But, with a deeper bench and 5-8 scoring options, the assist record from just last season may go down again. Let's hope so....
Go Huskies..!!
